will a 4g capable non cricket phone flashed to the cricket network pick up the 4g?

4G LTE phones require a SIM card and unless you can acquire one without buying a Cricket LTE phone, you won't be able to use LTE on a flashed phone.

We have to find out if Cricket will put you on an LTE plan with a flashed device. Also in my mind our best plan to test different theories would be getting a US Cellular S3 (which has the same model number) and seeing if it will take a Cricket SIM (unless of course Cricket is going with embedded SIMs like Sprint.

Depends on the location of the LTE tower. In general it should be an improvement in LTE areas. Remember that voice requires VoLTE or it will just fallback to 1xRTT I believe.

Cricket's S3 lte card is external (exactly like verizon's) . I tried putting one to a verizon galaxy s.3 flashed to cricket, it fits but it gave me an error " sim card not recognized" or something like that.

May be the phone needs to be unlocked as well for it to accept a different sim card. Like gsm?

I had a couple of different devices that didn't like the SIM. Even tried to put it in an unlocked GSM device. Some ME error.

Verizon Ipad really doesn't like it either and it doesn't even mind a foreign card like my AT&T SIM.

The iPhone 5 in its current state does not support the LTE bands that Cricket uses. So in short the answer is no.

Is there a Cricket source that can notify me of upcoming releases? Specifically I want to know when the Mercury will be available in my area. I live halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. The Cricket website says that the Mercury is not available in my area now.

I'd also like a way to stay updated on the progress of iPhone releases for Cricket.

Press releases usually aren't that interesting, but you can sign up for those.

We try to post anything of interest here.
