  • [ROOT] Cricket Samsung Galaxy S4 / S3 without tripping KNOX Counter (4.3)

Hello everyone. I've used this newer root method on both the Note 3 and S4. They were AT&T variants however it should work with the Cricket S3 and S4.

This method doesn't trip the KNOX Counter, but you will have the custom logo with the unlocked lock icon when booting the device. There are ways to fix that. When I get back from the holidays I'll test some stuff out.

Please be aware that I cannot guarantee this will work so use at your own risk as usual.

    Kies 3 Download: SAMSUNG KIES

UPDATE: PLEASE CHECK THE COMMENTS WHERE IT WAS VERIFIED TO WORK ON THE CRICKET S4.

I went ahead and tried this rooting method twice and got the same results. I don't know why it works for some phones and not for others

besides loosing insurance what else do you loose by triggering the knox boot-loader out of curiosity?
insurance will cover your phone even if you trip knox, the deductible is $200 right now. and the "handset protection program" costs $10 extra per month.

tripping the knox will void the warranty. Samsung and cricket guarantee your phone is free of defects for 12 months. As long as the phone isn't dropped, wet, or cracked. it's got a warranty.

beyond the warranty, Samsung will still fix your phone if you pay them as far as i know.

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing. I'm using the most up to date CWM. Not sure what to do about it at this point. Definitely makes me hesitate to flash new ROMS. I want to do AT's OMNI ROM, but don't want the hassle of redoing all of the stock ROM set-up if I want to go back. Hopefully somebody has some insight.

Is this happening with the latest version of CWM or TWRP?

Yup. I've tried multiple times on the latest version of both of the recoveries and all I end up doing is reflashing my rom thru Odin again. I have no problem flashing a 4.3 rom(cm 11,omni, ect.) it's just the backup.

Same thing. I didn't have problems flashing CM 11 and such, just an issue restoring the back-ups. Perhaps we should start a new thread?

From what I have read, flashing a recovery will trip the counter as the bootloader looks for a signature verification and if that verification fails, the 0x1 flag is set. Rooting using this method, I haven't tried as I'm still leary about the KNOX stuff. I've done my homework, however I'm not enthused that Samsung hid the efuse in our S4.

As far as CM11 is concerned, it's just like CM10.2 was. Buggy as all get out. Some people are reporting issues with MMS, but the KT-SGS4 build I did tonight solves that issue. The ril blobs are old as hell (invisiblek's words) so MMS/Data on the stock CM11 kernel are funky. KT-SGS4 for AOSP 4.4 KK plays nicely with those old blobs and tbh I'm running CM11 with KT right now to test it and to test the kernel. Solid so far. MMS sends and receives with the stock app over 3G/4G with wifi disabled.

Many people are saying that CWM 6.0.4.4 is having issues restoring backups at present because of the bootloader but since I haven't taken the 4.3 OTA yet I can't confirm.

Only if you're already rooted. Then you can use ROM Manager, but only then
