  • Cricket Wireless Samsung Galaxy S3 Root and Recovery Tutorial (CWM) with Video

At this moment there isn't a custom ROM available to my knowledge (11/25/2012). Expect there to be CM10 in the near future though and that other support from devs will appear.

You might also want to ROOT your device for the other benefits. One is the use of Titanium Backup and other backup methods available. Personally, I like having the freedom and control over my device.

These root methods weren't created by me. I just located the one I thought was the easiest for this device. Please support the devs that support us.

    Root the Device

There is another method involving ODIN that you can use on this device, but this one seems a lot more simple.

Install Samsung Drivers for the Galaxy S3: Support - US Cellular SCH-R530 | Samsung Cell Phones

Manuals and Download > Software > USB Drivers

Download sparkym3 Generic Debugfs root method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1344811948

Extract the files in the zip to a location that is easy to get to. In my video I used D:\temproot.

Make sure your device has install from unknown locations checked (under security settings) and USB Debugging enabled (in developer settings).

Plug the device in and let the drivers install, unless you've already done this before of course.

Open up the command prompt and go to the location where you placed these files. You could probably also just run RootDebugfs.bat from your File Explorer.

Follow the on screen instructions and enjoy.

You might want to go into superuser and poke around. Attempt to update binaries, etc. I had to do this before root worked.

    Install a Custom Recovery (CMW)

Go to the Google Play store and find ROM Manager. Run it and grant it superuser permissions. Install ClockworkMod Recovery (use Samsung Galaxy S3 - MetroPCS as of 11/25/2012). Reboot to recovery. Make a nandroid backup if you want.

The manual way of getting into recovery from a power off state is holding volume up + home + power until a little after the vibration is felt.

Had to try several times myself before I got it to work. Hold volume up and home...then hold power. When you feel quick vibrate, release power while still holding other two. Hold them till recovery screen comes up. Worked for me any way.

I'm pretty sure OTA will undo it. Probably won't even go thru unless you're completely stock, just rooted

Didn't work. I followed the video to a T and even got the success screen but the root itself failed.

EDIT: I followed the instructions more carefully. I just had to go into the superuser a bit! It worked! YES!
