  • HTC One V for Cricket Wireless (or RadioShack Mobile)

This morning was going to be really simple. I got a deal alert for the HTC One V for Virgin Mobile. It was selling for 40 bucks cheaper than normal ($159.99 once you add it to your cart). Alright so this phone has ICS, Beats Audio, a 3.7" (480x800 screen), 1Ghz processor, Sense 4.0, etc. It also has support from some case manufacturers which is good. So I was just going to purchase it and attempt to flash it to Cricket.

I guess I overlooked some of the articles in the last 24 hours though. RadioShack might be their own carrier soon. Well they might be operating as a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) of Cricket Wireless. Cricket Wireless is an MVNO of Sprint in non Cricket home markets. Just added that in case you are confused as to how things work. Basically if you have no wireless infrastructure and/or are not licensed spectrum from the FCC in certain areas, you have to work with someone else that is. This is my basic understanding. If someone would like to add/correct anything feel free.

One phone they would offer would be the HTC One V. This would explain why we saw this phone in Cricket's database months ago.

Here are a couple of pictures that were submitted to Engadget.

I think I'm still going to place my order for this phone in the next hour or so.

    Specifications from phoneArena.com:

The CDMA version of the HTC One V is a smartphone with a 3.7" SLCD2 screen with 480x800 pixels of resolution, 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4 gigs of internal storage. These specs, together with the 5MP camera on the back place it at the entry level of the new One lineup from HTC, but the HTC One V is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which is always a good thing. Moreover, the phone features the new HTC ImageChip, which allows for all the good camera stuff in the new One line, like low-light capabilities, and the ability to shoot pictures while you film a video.

Like normal, no one knows. Read carefully as well. We don't know if people with Cricket accounts will be able to put the device on it. You might have to go through RadioShack.

Cricket does a good job of not prematurely..... so people don't get angry. Can't miss release dates if you don't publicize them.

I'm going to put this up to a vote here.

Should I get the HTC One V for Virgin and try to flash it to Cricket or just wait for this? Money is money and the more money I spend on other products, the less I have to spend on other ones you might want info on.

Did anyone give word whether or not Cricket users can just purchase this phone and place it directly on their account without going through RadioShack?

This is a really nice phone for not being top of the line. I played with one at a conference in San Diego at the end of may. I'd probably carry this phone. It's supposed to sell for $199 on Cricket.

On the subject of Radio Shack... where do you suppose those folks will be told to go for help?

Thanks for the offer. I wound up pulling the trigger on it though. I think I can find some time to put it to some use.

I work for a cricket dealer, I was already told by one of my "higher ups" that the HTC one V is definitely coming to cricket and very soon... We just dropped the price of the mercury in the store to 179.99 and if you switch from another company to Cricket you can get the mercury for $89.99!!!! crazy good deal... so I believe they are going to bring in a new phone soon because thats what usually happens when expensive phones start going on sale.

I got one and it flashed pretty easily, but I'm having trouble getting the data connection to work. It just blips on for a moment and disconnects with an error 98... Btw, this phone likes to lie; CDMA-WS and QPST can change the msl and the phone will respond to the change, but it doesn't seem to stick

How did you read the msl to get it connected to open com port?
