  • PocketESN - Quickly Get Info About The Status of A Phone's ESN

    SOURCE: Android Police

When buying used phones off of eBay, Craigslist, or the like, a primary concern of anyone purchasing CDMA devices (Verizon, Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile, etc.) is the status of the phone's ESN (electronic serial number). If a device's ESN is registered as "banned" on its carrier because it has been listed as stolen or is attached to an unpaid account, then that phone cannot be activated on said carrier. Thus, the phone is either useless or has to be activated on a pre-paid carrier, which is generally not all that desirable and drastically decreases a device's worth.

Enter PocketESN, a creation from our boy Justin Case that allows you to quickly and easily check the status of a device's ESN by scanning the barcode (or entering the number manually) found beneath the battery. While this app is simple in nature, it's infinitely useful to anyone who often deals in used cell phones, as it will potentially prevent them from being duped by dishonest sellers claiming their device is "clean."

I guess we could make a tutorial on how to make a good reply.

      Example:

Thanks, I'm still unsure about this though. Any ideas?

      Example:

Oh this is great. I can really use this!

      Example:

You can also try this (Market App for the Dictionary of STDs <--- is there one?).

Lets keep making then that's really useful isn't it. I'm surprised someone on here didn't try and take credit for it since it seems like you guys are good for coping and pasting from other forums. That is all keep up the good.....work? Lol

      1. I'm going to let your first statement slide because you're on a mobile device. It is hard to convey a clear message when one uses poor grammar though.

      2. Since we don't allow trolling, and since this site is an apparent waste of your time... I'll be happy to escort you to the virtual door. If only it were a revolving door you might be able to gain access again. It's not though. More like an exit only door or those little spike things you drive over where once you go over them, any attempt to regain access is futile. :-)

There was even more drama about this product outside of this forum.

Someone hacked it and released the full version for free temporarily. I guess they removed the XDA thread. Basically the guy tried to deny it but there was already overwhelming evidence that he did it.

The author did release a free version that only checks the current device it is on.

Why pay for something when you can get it free?

      Checkesnfree.com

It's called "options". Some stuff is worth paying for.
An android app for checking esns is a lot easier to use than a website in most cases. I can see the value in this.

But why all the hate? If all the people hating could stfu and make something useful themselves then fine. Otherwise do just that. STFU!

      Exactly.

I don't think it was deathtrip unless he is a partner in checkesnfree. This is an Android app vs a website. We have already written and done a video about that site as well.

Wow.. Thank God the haters aren't more involved in the Android development arena.. Otherwise we would only one email client, one calender client, one solitaire game.. oh, the thought makes me want to go back to the iOS world.. where everyone is happy and one with the world.. (insert funky zen sounds)

I personally like variety... Some things click with me that dont with others...
