  • Republic Wireless Mobile Phone Service Exits Private Beta, Now Available To All

For those of you who haven't noticed, Cricket Users has a section for Republic Wireless. If you know anything about Republic Wireless or have any experience with them please feel free to keep us updated in this section.

    SOURCE: Engadget

It's been just over a year since Republic Wireless promised us unlimited phone, data and SMS services for under 20 bucks a month. Then, this past summer, a select few were invited to use the fledgling hybrid mobile service in a closed beta, and now Republic's opening up its doors to everyone. Interested parties can jump on the bandwagon by pre-ordering a service-compatible Motorola DEFY XT for $249 on the company website, plus there's a $10 start-up fee and applicable taxes to get started. In case you forgot, it's a pay-as-you-go plan, and should you not be satisfied with what your $19 a month gets you, there's a 30-day money back guarantee. Want to know more? There's post from company GM Jim Mulcahy with all the details at the source below.

Now’s your chance to join republic wireless, the nation's first Wi-Fi mobile network, and the thousands already enjoying $19 per month for unlimited talk, text and data with no overages, no contracts, no hidden charges.

RW is offering a special pre-order opportunity to reserve a dual-band Motorola DEFY XT smartphone , no invitation or wave needed. Each dual-band DEFY XT phone features Hybrid Calling technology which uses Wi-Fi where it's available and cell where it’s not. It’s a smarter smartphone, designed to offer you tremendous savings.

      Specs

      Phone - $249
      Start up fee & shipping - $10
      Total - $259

      RW

      ----------------------------

I really wanted to try this service out, but now that the beta is done and it is available to everyone, I'm not sure if I'll pull the trigger on it. That's a lot of money to do some review videos on it.

I guess they mean it's the first mobile network that is mainly supported by wifi (vs normal cellular towers).

      Bob Republic phone?

They dropped the Optimus pretty quick eh? Interesting decision to go with a DEFY though. Probably a lot of surplus available.

Not that I have seen. It looks like service is limited to that one droid they sell at the moment. No flashing your current phone over.
