Android Contacts (Phone Only Option Gone)
Did anyone else notice that the "Phone Only" option is gone to save contacts to the phone instead of syncing with Google?
I don't like that. I always used to save my contacts on my phone because I didn't want them on the Internet with Google, but now I don't have that option.
Google has also updated their Privacy Policy..
I wonder what Google wants to do with my contacts..
Remember 1-800-GOOG-411? It was that great free 411 service. Well, Google stopped that a while ago, and I remember hearing that Google was actually using it to improve their voice recognition service. So, they were "using" our voices to improve their service. What else are they using that we don't know of?[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

The idea is that the contacts are always backed up.
People who exist at all on the internet and yet complain about what google knows about them just crack me up. If you are on the web, you have no privacy.** Don't PM if you need something. I will NOT respond**

This is true even in the real world, though..
Privacy should be understood as being able to use the washroom without someone looking or listening, etc.. Holding the idea that your information isn't readily available is just silly..
Trust me, I have first hand knowledge about just how much someone can learn about your life, online and off.

Google already messed up my contacts the first time I synced and now it just keeps putting more duplicates on my phone. Annoying.

Yeah, I would like the "Phone Only" option to come back. I don't like Google wanting more and more information. I can't believe they want phone numbers stored in their system, phone numbers of people who didn't give them permission to store them. I guess I gave them permission by adding them.

Just log into your gmail on a pc and go to contacts and click More> find and merge. This will merge your duplicates and the you wont get dupes any longer.

I believe you can still turn off the sync contacts option under Menu>Settings> Accounts&Sync. Still makes the available, but doesn't sync to your account.

Evo 3D running stock 2.3.4 with the latest version of Sense, still able to save to phone only. Maybe it's a Samsung thing?
