FAQ: How do I enable the native tether option on the Huawei Ascend 2?

Here I'm going to show you how to enable the native Tether (usb and wireless) on your Ascend II. I wasn't able to wireless tether with any programs after getting root. I found this way to do it with the built-in android tether option.

First off you need root. You're going to be editting a system file that is read-only, so you will need to remount it was writable. Which isn't possible unless you have root.

Download a file manager that allows root access. I use ES File Explorer, I believe that you will need to go into settings to enable root access.

Once you have that installed open it and navigate to /system/

There should be a file in the /system/ directory called: build.prop. Open it with ES Note Editor (or whichever you prefer).

    Scroll down till you see:

    Code:
    ro.tether.denied=true
Change the true to false, then just save the file to the system and reboot.

Once your phone is rebooted you will have an option under Settings > Wireless & networks that says: Tethering & portable hotspot.

    Thanks for posting!

I don't have the Huawei Ascend 2, but I'm sure somebody else will confirm that it works.

Agreed. I've enabled the equalizer and added a few other settings. But how is power save? I haven't enabled it yet because I'm not sure if it lowers performance.

Also, I hardly use my phone for music so I can't really comment on the quality/effects of the equalizer. But I can confirm that changing the setting does add the equalizer option in the music player.

I would like to know how you did this remount. I have rooted the phone then downloaded Terminal Emulator then I run "su <enter> mount -o rw,remount /system" It is not working I get "Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory"

Anyway I'm not having any luck can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing wrong?

yup if you are rooted it will do just that. But you will need to be rooted with either method.

Root explorer will allow you to access and edit your system files your system files.

How were you able to get root explorer to work?

First you have to be rooted so it can work, Root Explorer has a R/W button in the top right corner of the app. Navigate to the dir you want to work in and press that button. Then long press on the file you want to edit, the build.prop in the case, and select edit as text. Find the line you want to edit tap the screen and make your edit and save. RE will even make a backup of the edited file in case you need to revert back to it.

Yeah, I've used root explorer on my tablet. I just for the life of me can't get it to work on my A2. Just wondering if you had to change any settings to make it work.
