    Root?

Ever since I got this phone (yesterday) I've been looking for a way to root it. Anyone know of a way that works??

Guys, I have just successfully rooted my brand new Cricket Samsung Galaxy Discover (actual model is Samsung SCH-R740C) using UnlockRoot Pro (free version). Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your phone (system settings > developer options), plug your phone into USB, run UnlockRoot and see if it works for you. Report back with results.

UnlockRoot Pro: (make sure you read as it installs so you don't install unwanted software)

    Download---UnlockRoot/UnlockPhone/UnlockRom---Android Root

Driver package that I installed prior to rooting:

    http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co..._v1.5.14.0.exe

I also have Samsung Kies installed. Not sure if that helped UnlockRoot detect my phone or not.

I have also verified that the root was successfull using Root Checker app. 100% working.

Edit to add: My first reply has not been approved yet, but I gave instructions.

    Thumbs up

I'm not sure how quickly they approve posts on this forum, so, here is the PM I sent to the above users, minus the download links:

    - Enabled USB debugging on the phone (system settings > developer options)
    - Installed Samsung USB driver pack

    - Installed Samsung Kies
    - Installed UnlockRoot Pro (free version)

(read the information as it begins to install so you don't install unwanted software with it. Just keep clicking "skip" until its ready to install)

    - Plug phone into PC and get past lock screen if enabled
    - Open UnlockRoot and click "Root"

If it is successful, it will say so. If not, unplug the phone from PC and try uninstalling the phone from device manager on your PC (right click "my computer" and go to properties > device manager to find the Samsung device in the list. Right click the device and click "uninstall"). Then plug the phone back into your computer, open UnlockRoot and see if it works again.

Try running UnlockRoot before installing the Samsung drivers and Kies, just in case you're lucky and don't need them.

If you guys need further assistance let me know!

I can confirm that UnlockRoot with the Samsung Drivers work, but Kies isn't needed, plus for me (as I'm running XP) Kies for some reason malforms the MTP Drivers and gives me a Code 1 Error, so I had to reinstall XP to get it working again

Not for this phone... not yet. There doesn't seem to be even a stock recovery.img available anywhere... trying to find it myself on my replacement R740C, and try to pull it off.

    i think it's this block

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/s7zw7q1tpf...mmcblk0p12.img

if you can get adb use adb to push the file. . make sure you backup before hand! i'm not responsible if this bricks your phone.

    dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p12.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12

I have that one - I've also done a ROM dump, and if anyone can find anything appropriate, here's the link to my Google drive location:

    https://drive.google.com/folderview?...28&usp=sharing

Be aware, the system.tar file is > 380 MB, and is still uploading - it'll take quite a while to download, depending on the speed of your connection.

It's the output from the romdump binary from over on xda. Somewhere in there is the recovery... just can't seem to find it, so maybe someone else can see what's there, and understand it better than I... (which ain't much, I guarantee! LOL)
