Insanely better battery life for ZTE Score and really all android phones / wifi drops

On ZTE Score Go to settings, wireless and networks, wifi settings, PRESS MENU key, click advanced, change wifi sleep policy to NEVER. For all android smartphones even an iPhone always use Wifi no matter what anyone says. Tested myself with my 5 different android phones on three different carriers. Or look here for professional testing; lookup any phone's battery life under wifi and then under 3g or 4g:

    AnandTech - Bench - Smartphone11

The wifi dropping thing is a android feature every phone defaults are setup differently, some phones are setup to always keep the wifi on, from the factory cause most company's aren't dumb. Battery life will be great on wifi especially for this phone with it's very small battery, 1200mah is ridiculous. The optimus with it's 1500mah (probably higher quality as well) battery have the almost exact hardware but the optimus' battery lasts all day.

If you want to get really great battery life turn off syching when you aren't using your phone. Settings accounts and synch, uncheck auto sych. My sisters zte score would loose 10% every hour in a bad signal area just sitting idle doing nothing, there are no apps installed on her phone that actually use background data. Turned wifi to NEVER turn off and turned off auto sych now she looses 3% battery every 6 hours now when it's idle. When she uses phone it works normally.

Great find! I've known that having the phone connected to wifi leads to less battery drain, but I did not know there was an option to have it stay on when the phone sleeps. Thanks for the heads up!
Also of note, be sure to turn off wifi completely if you aren't in an area were you won't be connecting to wifi; the phone constantly scanning for connections can drain the battery quickly.

thanks for sharing! one of the things i often show customers on their new smart phone is the 'power widget' you can turn on and off wifi, synch, etc with the press of a button. i always just set wifi to never sleep as habit. F* waiting for it to login every time the phone goes to sleep mode.

Finally, something that worked. After alot of research on this topic nothing seemed to help. Wifi sleep policy to never sleep seemed to help considerably. Thank you fuzybaffy. Now I feel more comfortable attempting to root. I have just begun researching this root business and Im leaning towards giving it a shot now that my battery will stay charged longer than a couple of hours.
