    [GUIDE][CWM] ZTE Score X500 (Cricket & MetroPCS)

Here is a guide on how to install Clockworkmod Recovery v6 on the ZTE Score X500. There are both traditional and Touch CWM linked below, Be warned tho the Touch was built on builder.clockworkmod.com and no options to specify a font so its kinda big n funky looking.

Has been submitted to koush for official build.

    Instructions:

    • From command prompt or terminal:

    • Copy flash_image and zte-x500-recovery.img to the sdcard on the device:

    Code:
    adb push zte-x500-recovery.img /sdcard/
    Code:
    adb push flash_image /sdcard/
    • To use flash_image to flash a recovery image called zte-x500-recovery.img in the root of your sdcard

    Code:
    adb shell
    Code:
    su
    • Temporarily allow app to run from the sdcard (use mount to find the correct device for your sdcard, ie: the /dev/block/BLAH part)

    Code:
    mount -o remount,exec /dev/block//vold/179:1 /sdcard
    Code:
    cd /sdcard
    Code:
    ./flash_image recovery /sdcard/zte-x500-recovery.img
    Downloads:

    How to use CWM:

    • Volume buttons navigate up n down.
    • Power button is back.
    • Camera button is select.

Sweet this sounds great. Thanks Playfulgod. Your work on this phone has been great.

Side Note: If running stripped blue you will only have to enter terminal emulator and enter the following

    "su"
    "flash_image recovery /sdcard/zte-x500-recovery.img"
    Or
    "flash_image recovery /sdcard/zte-x500-touch-recovery.img"

Enter this without quotes and make sure recovery.img is on sdcard not in a folder. Flash_image comes in stripped blue already. Hope this helps

Thnx for this PlayfulGod I accidentally posted a rom here and realized there is a thread for that.

As always I am not responsible if your phone breaks.
You can also (on a rooted phone - which yours should be if your doing this) use the terminal and a file manager. Put flash_image in /system/bin and make it executable (I use X-Plore). Then all you need is the cwm image you posted or one of the others that work on the x500.

    Then just run:

    su
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

at your android terminal (you need super user permissions to run this). The tools needed for this a file manager and the pretty links you provided to be able to get the needed files on to your phone. The name of the file and the location may not be exactly the same. It could be something like this:

    su
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/Download/cwmrecovery.img

    Have fun!

Thanks for building CWM for this phone playful god .
I actually flashed the recovery before anything else (even activating it or rooting it) from the phone .

For those of you out there who want to install this without root installed yet here's how. As the factory rom contains a nasty backdoor in my opinion.

Place the flash_image and CWM recovery of your choice from above on your sdcard
open a terminal emulator and type the following lines as separate commands.
*note if your path to a file contains spaces encapsulate the path in ""
    ** example "/sdcard/modified recovery/CWM_X500.img"

    sync_agent ztex1609523
    mount -o remount,exec /dev/block//vold/179:1 /sdcard
"path to flash_image binary" "path to CWM .img"
    reboot recovery

If you want to install root as well you can. Just do it before the reboot recovery command.

here's the commands. You just need to find a proper su and superuser.apk for your phone and place them on the sdcard.

    mv "path to SuperUser.apk" /system/app/
    chmod 6755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
mv "path to su binary" /system/bin/
    busybox chown 0 /system/bin/su
    busybox chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
    ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su

You should have full root capabilities after that. All that is left is possibly upgrading your busybox but there are apps for that from the playstore (2 many symbolic links to do from the phone terminal ). Oh and I renamed the backdoor no reason really for it being left there and its safer that way.

followed stoni's instruction just to push flash image. them did the rest. I just used rom toolbox pro, since it has Android terminal and a root explorer.

Re: [GUIDE][CWM] ZTE Score X500 (Cricket & MetroPCS)

To all others as playfulgod posted above this device is in rom manager. So the easiest and safest way to install recovery on this phone is to download rom manager from google play and use it to flash recovery.

So, I tried this after getting SU up, and after setting my device, attempted to flash recovery. It went through and d/led a bunch of stuff, and then just said something like 'error attempting to flash recovery'. I'm totally new to this, so perhaps I have to give the app SU or something, not sure.. I noticed the version from the store is 5.0 something too, not the 6.0 I see mentioned in other threads..

Any help on getting recovery before I attempt to install a mod?

Download Rom Manager from Google Play and use that to flash recovery.

And yes you must be rooted and grant the above app superuser access. If it doesn't work the first time try again.

Ok, that's what I did pretty much, and I did try it a few times. I guess I don't know how to grant SU at this point. I am assuming I'll have to grab a terminal, but could you tell me the commands after that please?

If it matters, I do have the kernel you mentioned in the warning (but the second string is a little different), rooted it with poot like you said. Don't know if this matters, but here is what my info says:

    kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf+ztemt@swlab-1t127 #1
    baseband: ZTE-C X500_31_Z10_S_TS3BG312A_06

you shouldn't have to use flash_image to do your recovery as rom manager now supports our phones. just d/l it from google play and run it. select our phone and flash the recovery. it'll bring up a box asking for root. just grant it. and done. real simple now
