Phone only works when plugged in.

    Hi
My suspicions are that this phone is one step away from the grave, and I'm hoping that someone knows the answer. A few nights ago I plugged in the phone for charging and the next morning it was not charged and the screen message says "Battery Fault." OK, I thought, batteries, like people, die eventually, so no big deal. My girlfriend's kid has the same ZTE, so I tried that battery, after he'd charged it all night, and the results are the same. The phone acts like there is no battery at all and is totally dead unless it is plugged in. Moreover, as soon as the phone is plugged in, it turns itself on (I don't have to hold down the on button). And when you turn it off, it turns off but then restarts immediately. So my question is does this sound like a hardware or software problem? Physically, the phone is in good shape with no water or gravity issues. Also, it's rooted but nothing has been added or deleted in several weeks. Thanks for any advice. It took awhile, but I was just starting to like this phone...

Sounds like a hardware issue imo.

Definitely a hardware problem. You are correct that it is one step from the grave, maybe even closer. I know these phones are notorious for charge ports breaking, but it doesn't act like yours when the port breaks. I would make sure your data is backed up and prepare to put it out to pasture.

Thanks for the input. At least it's an inexpensive phone. One (most likely) last question: Will a normal ZTE Score work if the battery is removed and the phone is plugged in (like mine) ?

I have 3 of them here and without a battery they will boot up to the lock screen, I read a message that says "battery failed" and it shuts off and reboots.
