    What We Need...

What we need to actually have any real development is the source code for the kernel. I've contacted a couple different developers regarding a CM7 port and this the consensus.

    Device is rooted. Good
    Device has custom recovery. Good
Source code has been released. BAD

So in order to move forward we need to get this code released. I've already emailed device support and customer service for help. The code not being released isn't in keeping with AOSP.

So let's keep hammering ZTE for that code release. Just Google their sites and hit the "contact us" button.

    INITIAL REPLY :

    "Dear Christian Stark,

We really understand but Sorry to inform you that we can't provide this now .

Should there be further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best Regards "

    Not a positive start...

From what I've been reading not releasing source is possibly a violation of the GNU, GPL and Apache agreement. So I'll keep hounding them.

So for everyone curious as to why there's been no source built roms(ie CM, Liquid, Oxygen ports etc) it's because ZTE has not released the source code.

The definition of OPEN!!!: "mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make"

In plain speak, this is the commands required to download the Android source code and compile it yourself.

Which we CAN'T do because ZTE has NOT released our source. This needs to be a community effort to pressure the manufacturer.

Almost a 100 views with zero response or feedback. This is why this device is getting no attention. I'll not be wasting any further time or energy on it.

There have been others that have attempted to get them to release the source for the kernel with no positive response so far. Is there some entity out there that we can email and try and cause them some pain to get them to comply?

I dont want to seem like an idiot when sending an email to these people so that our concerns get over looked, what is the basic layout of our statement or request to GNU.org? This might help us less informed users who may be a bit timmid about sending an email to someone on a topic we know nothing about, except that we will benifit greatly from the result of this source code release. At this point I hope we can generate more support for this movement cause I'd like to see what the DEV's can do for us low end users of the ZTE Score.

A good generic format would be something like....

On or about September 2011 ZTE released the ZTE Score model number X500 which is an android platform device. ZTE has yet to release the source code for the above mentioned device. This is in violation of Linux GNU/GPL licensing. We are asking that ZTE comply comply with these agreements as every other android manufacturer does.
