New number included with "unavailable" calls not asking for me?

Switched to Cricket recently and got a new number as well.

From the beginning I've been getting calls from an unavailable number from the early morning to the day asking for someone I don't know.

I have called the customer service line and they couldn't block it since it is an unavailable number. (Thought it'd be in some kind of record)
Also while asking questions I found out they recycle their old numbers.
So I'm assuming this number has been on a list for a LONG TIME and it is called everyday regardless of it being disconnected.
    Anyways, no help.

When I answer I attempt to explain that this number no longer belongs to the previous owner. Before I even mention that, they hang up.
And that's happened twice. other times it's gone to voicemail and they don't even leave a message. (Persistent low-priority call???)
So my last resort is not answering and having them hear my voicemail greeting stating my full name and the rest.
I doubt they'll get to that part since they'll hang up.
And I'll have to deal with the ringing.

I want unavailable calls asking for ME.

    Thanks all at cricketusers.com

If anyone has got a solution besides blocking all calls that aren't in my contacts, thanks.
If anyone is going through the same thing, let me know.
    That would be nice.

You can get your number changed. That should fix the problem. Hopefully you will get a number that doesn't have people looking for someone else.

hey i have my old number.
I was gonna keep it when I switched to Cricket.
But during the activation process it did not let me enter a phone number other than my new one that was sent to me by e-mail.

I think it's like 15 bucks to switch it.
    Is it possible?

My old number thinks it's getting it's (pre-paid) service paid soon.

Just be patient, this happens when you get a new number, the amount of phones in the world has grealy increased so you have an extremely small chance of having a number that's never been used.. There really is no other solution that you didn't already come up with unless you have an android phone.

Oh, it should have given you the option to keep it. You need to call Cricket back and explain to them that you want to port your number. There shouldn't be a fee since you didn't see the option when you signed up for the service.

The port number is 1 866 351 7678 there is no fee. But the number you are porting must be an active line.

    Woof: Samsung Suede.

    Thanks for all the responses.
I just called and was given the option to change it but backed out because I couldn't use my old number.
I was only able to do so during the activation process.
Even when I explained what happened, the agent couldn't fix the problem.

They did suggest to call or go to a Cricket store and delete the account at the end of the billing cycle and open a new one to use my old number then.
Sounds messy to me but makes sense.

i'm gonna stick with this number and see how it goes before I do anything "drastic".

the other line isn't active. I would have to pay the other carrier a month's service to get the benefit of the port number service.
    I know someone's laughing here.

Anyways, I greatly appreciate all the help here. More than I had expected.

I really think Cricket has the ability to port a number, even if you've already started service with them. I know other companies can do this, so I don't see why Cricket wouldn't be able to.

And, you're right, you would need to pay another month on your other service to get it active again so you can port it. So, how important is your old number to you? If it's really that important, then do it. If you don't care either way, then just get another new number and hopefully people will stop calling for someone else.

    Old number is not important.
I just didn't get "unavailable" calls asking for someone else before...or "unavailable" calls.

I'll just ignore it. or maybe I'll pick up one day and maybe they won't hang up.
Sucks when they call in the morning though.
    Geez.
Will have to see how it goes til the billing cycle ends. i've got the options now.

    Thanks again.

Yeah, you can just change your number. That would be easiest.
