Random names suddenly appear in contacts lists

Hello. My son and I both have both had a weird problem with our phones, and we can't figure out why. He's got a Cricket LG Optimus C, and I've got a Cricket Huawei Mercury. A couple of weeks ago, my son's contact list all of a sudden had a bunch (like over 100) random contacts added to it, all of people he doesn't know. Now all of a sudden, mine has done the same thing - I suddenly have a bunch of random contacts in my list, and I don't know any of them. I opened a bunch of them up, and they all have the same area code as we've got, if that makes any difference. I haven't downloaded any apps in about a week, so I don't think that could have anything to do with it, plus the most recently downloaded apps that I have were things that my son didn't have, so I don't think that an app is the reason for it. Has anybody else heard of this happening? I did a google search, and I couldn't find anything like it. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying to have to go through and delete a bunch of contacts, so if there's anything in particular causing it, I'd like to figure out how to stop it from happening again.

It might be from your Gmail account, anyone you might have emailed will wind up in your contacts list. Because your gmail is synced to your phone, it will do that... Facebook will also sync your contacts too... (I know you said that you don't know these people)

It's not from my gmail account, because I don't ever use that account. And I actually deactivated my facebook a couple of days before this happened, so it's not coming from there, either.

it's most likely the cricket mybackup application. mybackup is tied to the phone number, and if anyone had the number before it's still got the old numbers backed up

I didn't even think about that, but it makes sense, especially since the numbers are all in my area code. Now, do you know if there's a way to un-back up those numbers? Or will they just keep re-appearing in my contacts?

Ok, I figured it out. I logged in mycricket.com, and there's an option to delete those contacts. Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Go into the mybackup application in mycricket.com under my account and delete the numbers that arent your, then resync.
