rooting a sprint GS3 that was just flashed over to cricket.

Just bought a sprint GS3 from a 3rd party and flashed it over to Cricket. I was wondering if I can root this phone without messing up the flash.

Yeah root and recovery don't affect the flash

My work on the CDMA Cricket S3 and S4 are now obsolete. Thanks for all the support when I was actively working on them!

doesn't quite answer the guys question.....^^^ To the OP, if you want to keep your flash I recommend skipping the root, but if you must, expect to have it redone and if you don't be thankful that your flash is still in tact. If you must go with a custom OS I would recommend staying away from AOSP or variants because you will lose your dialer codes and it will be even more labor intensive to get a diag port to even redo the flash. Do as you please, but if you root and custom rom just expect the worst and pray for the best when it comes to flashing.

Actually E if you use Odin to flash only recovery and flash the su binary and Superuser apk in recovery it won't mess up the flash since it doesn't touch the radio at all

I figured if you didn't touch the modem, you would be fine. Just a general advice given, not knowing what or how the OP intends to root or what to do after root.

Exactly. The only issue he might have when flashing roms is cricket apns but that's a simple fix. Edit the build.prop and change the numeric to 31016 and use adb to push the apns-conf.xml then reboot. Most aosp roms like cm10, AOKP, and even chameleonOS have our apns now anyways
