    Talking

Well today I was having the same problem as you and I installed the MikG ROM 3.0 for Htc Evo 4g which you can find in here (
    Download HTCEvo4G/GingerbreadROMs/MikG/MikG-v3.0-signed.zip at DownloadAndroidROM.com

) after I installed it I went to "Messages" app and then hit menu--->settings--->Multimedia messages (MMS)--->I changed Maximum message size to 500K then I went to "Connection settings" and change name to Cricket, mmsc to
    http://mms.mycricket.com/mms.php

I cleared up the proxy and I set the port to 8080 and then everything was working fine! I hope you try it and it works for you!
(leave mms protocol as WAP 2.0)

This thread is about a year old but I have the same phone and I think I figured it out....sorta.
First I have the Jelly Bean os
    2. you need to go to your apn and enter these settings

The MNC is the problem area because it locks my apn and I cannot view it anymore. 04 wont work for me but 016 does.
I am able to send mms messages with no problem as long as 3G/mobile internet is on. However I am working on receiving mms for now.
