Played with one in the Cricket store yesterday, the screen is the same size as the Mercury, it is a nice phone. Other than ics, it really isn't a upgrade compared to the Merc.

the camera in my opinion is better. it produces some pretty crisp images. It also has a light balancing-thing where if a picture is take in low light, it'll make up for the lack. i like it a lot! although i'm not super impressed with the front facing camera. it's only like 3 mp. i don't know what the merc's is, but i feel like it's was better than the engage.

I'm really debating on getting this phone.. I have the mercury right not and just installed ics that I got from this site and everything works good except for a few things. First of all; can the engage be rooted or does it need to be? Also, will the engage's 1024 MB of ram make that much of a difference compared to the 528 MB of the mercury??

Ummm Idk if there's a root available for this phone yet. But yes, the 1024mb of ram means basically you can run more programs without lag. Plus this ICS we're running on the merc takes up 99% of the ram...for instance, I only have like 77mb left and barely have any apps going so that means the Engage is a billion times smoother on ICS. I'm debating on the engage but I think I'll wait until I can figure out how good the cameras are and if I can root it.

    Re: v8000

My phone usually has less than that.. Around 3540mb when running apps... The settings alone use something like 18-20mb. As far as picture resolution, I'm pretty sure they're both 8 mega pixels in the back and and like .3 mega pixels in the front. The screen/display resolution on the v8000 is only about 80 or so pixels shy of the m886... Which might be why some people are concerned about picture quality? I'm gonna check it out today and see of I'm feeling saucey...
