    recommend S3 or other?

I've decided that it's time to get a new phone (currently have the Huawei Mercury). Do folks recommend getting the Samsung Galaxy S3 (I've been eying it for some time) or wait for the S4? Or recommendations for another phone (e.g., HTC One SV; HTC One [flashed]; Samsung Galaxy Note 2 [flashed])?

I'm interested in all recommendations. I want to be fully informed before upgrading.

    TIA,

    Jason

Well the S3 was supposedly promised the next version of android to come in the (nearish?) future, plus the hardware of the phone is excellent, it's not unthinkable to be able to use the S3 for at least the next 2 years. Since it's gotten the jellybean update a bunch of doors were opened. We have a couple devs that are kicking a$$ on catching the cricket S3 up to the ones put out by the bigger carriers. All in all it's by far the best phone I've ever had. Hope this helps.

I'd disagree. The S3 already has jellybean and to be honest I would hold out for the S4 in June. I'm getting one but will still maintain the S3 since the roms will be similar. The S4 will have the largest screen aside from phablets like the note, fastest quad core processor in any phone. It'll be way more future proof

My work on the CDMA Cricket S3 and S4 are now obsolete. Thanks for all the support when I was actively working on them!

Just remember that the S4 won't be getting the official support from CM do. So if you like to mod your phone that may be an issue as well.

I am already bootloader unlocked and rooted, and the HTC One is sexier IMO, the camera is beast and the audio is top notch this thing has killer sound. I can hold down the camera button and capture images faster than anything I have seen from a phone period.

    Agreed.
Think of the s4 as the more improved S3. Plus its always better to have the latest and greatest.

This is incorrect. CM will have official support for the S4 like they always do with the newest high end phones. Even the Motorola Droid X had official support for a while with it's locked bootloader and inability to flash kernels. We'll see official support for the S4 for at least 1 version and then it would be on the developers to go from there. CM used the original Sammy kernel source on the S3 variants that were released first and modified it to work with their rom. That's what they've done with every version since the original CM rom came out until a newer usable kernel comes out with either better features from Google or Code Aurora (who they're using now to help base their 3.4 kernels on.) Likely within a few months, CM 11 would have a 3.6 or 3.7 kernel which would put it in line with most current Linux operating systems (current stable mainstream Linux kernel version is 3.8.1)

I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of unofficial ports, but like I said, who uses official anyways? Lol,

That's when a CM member picks up on it. Cm already said they wouldn't.

Lots of roms are based of CM and if we can't get a stable base rom every thing else may have issues.

All we'd need is a fully working base stable or otherwise and a friend in high places. I have 2 such people I could probably ask to help me convince Cyanogen
