    [HOWTO] UNroot GS3

This guide will show you how to UNroot your Galaxy S3.
This method works on all variants so if you have a flashed device that you want to unroot, it works without destroying the flash. Also this will not work if you are on my deodexed rom. You must be on stock rom.

    Code:
    Standard disclaimers apply.

Neither CricketUsers.com or myself are responsible if your phone ends up broken. Period.

    On with the show!

You will need 3 things before you begin this guide.

    1. The stock recovery found here:
      Goo.im Downloads - Downloading d2cri_jb_stock_recovery.zip

      (if on JB) or
Dev-Host - d2cri_CWM-TWRP_FlashableStockRecovery.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

      (if on ICS)
    2. Triangle Away from the thread on XDA Developers found here:
      [2013.03.21][ROOT] TriangleAway v2.90 - xda-developers

    3. SuperSU available from Google Play for free.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE!

This guide will reset your phone to a true out of the box status. YOU MUST BACKUP ANY PICTURES, VIDEOS, MUSIC, DOWNLOADS, OR ANY OTHER FILES YOU WANT TO SAVE FROM YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY. THIS GUIDE WIPES IT AND I WILL NOT EXPLAIN HOW TO DO IT WITHOUT WIPING EVERYTHING. DO NOT ASK. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

    Step One:

Start off by saving the recovery to your external SD Card and then booting your phone into the custom recovery you are using. From a powered off state, press Volume Up + Home + Power until it boots recovery.

    Step two:

You will need to flash the recovery by selecting "Install Zip from SD Card..." then "Install zip from external SD Card" and finally navigating to the file. Select it, and select yes to flash it. Once that is done, push the back key until you get to the main recovery menu. If you want to verify the recovery flashed, choose "Advanced" and then "Reboot recovery." If you see Andy Android, you are now in a stock recovery. Choose "Reboot System" to start up Android.

    Step three:

Install Triangle Away from the XDA thread and SuperSU from Google Play. These are vital to resetting the flash counter and the final unroot. Once you have them installed, open SuperSU. It will say SU Binary needs to be updated. Select continue and then choose Normal. It will ask for root acces. Allow it and let it do what it needs to. Once it says Success, exit out of SuperSU and fire up Triangle Away(note: you may have to allow installations from unknown sources. If prompted, hit settings and make sure Unknown Sources is checked.)

    Step four:

In Triangle Away, scroll down and select "Reset flash counter." You will get a warning that it is dangerous. This is relatively safe. I and many others have used this app with success. Select Continue. Triangle Away will close after it is finished.

    Step five:

Open SuperSU. Go to the Settings tab and scroll to the bottom and look for the option that says "Full Unroot" and select it. Select Continue to unroot your device.

    Step six:

This is the final step. There is no turning back from here. You can reroot your phone later if you choose, but this is the dragon I warned you about. You will now need to reset the TouchWiz system modified status. While Triangle Away will reset the Bootloader's flash counter, Android still shows modified in Settings > About Device > Status. To fix this, go to Settings > Backup and Reset and select Factory data reset. Read the warning. It's not lying to you. Once you perform this step, it will wipe the internal memory as well as all downloaded apps, settings, and the like. If you want to continue, Select Reset Device and then select Delete All. Your phone will reboot into stock recovery and perform the seriously hard factory reset.

After it finishes, your phone will reboot into Android where you will have to setup all over again, but you will now be unrooted and the flash counter is reset.

    Hope this helps!

That's what I was shooting for. I usually run SuperSU anyways but since CM roms have integrated Koush's superuser not so much. This is the method I used to unroot so I could take the ota. That's how I knew it worked

Is that thru settings/backup and reset cause I did that and still on custom rom. It doesn't even change the boot animation just erases all my data and thats it. The steps are easy so I know I didn't forget anything right. I think I'm goin to have to install cwm and reroot again
Edit: I rerooted and tried it again with the same results

Stephen, will flashing one of those stock/unrooted/unkernalized/unfun ODIN flashables (via ODIN of course after running Triangle Away on a rooted system give me full stock back to do the OTA ? I may get a little impatient waiting for s4 functions to be flashable to CM10 lol. if this is off-topic I apologize for venturing further into it.
