couple of notes (WARNING, Disclaimer: ONLY perform these steps if you have problems with Stephens steps they are MUCH safer)

    1. On my flash of CWM Recovery from Odin, my GSIII kept booting into regular "Stock Recovery"
    2. After Reboot my CWM Recovery would not stay, it would reset to "Stock"

    Fix for 1:

a)Follow all previous steps for flashing CWM Recovery, do not click start
    b) before selecting start Un-check "Auto Reboot", Select "Start"

    c) IMPORTANT: Before Proceeding you must receive the "PASS" and "Res OK" messages (Screen Shot)
    Attachment 4161

    d) Dis-connect the USB cable and do a "Battery Pull"
    e) Put the battery back in, and boot into CWM Recovery (Press power until you feel it vibrate, while holding Up volume and home, continue holding up and home)
    f) You should now be in CWM Recovery!

Fix for 2: (this one is easy and kinda a dumb one on my part) After flashing the Root zip, and going to reboot, CWM recovery might tell you that your stock rom may overwrite CWM recovery - do you want to fix? - well... yea! - select yes, easy!

That's how I had to get'r'done. It's safe to do a battery pull as long as you get the PASS or Res OK.
had me shakey for a minute - but all went well.
It may seem like it's "hanging" on a black screen when you first boot - this is where my shaking began.. no worries, it just takes about 10 seconds to load up.
If you flash CyanogenMod to your phone it replaces the straight black recovery screen into a CM boot style screen. So it's a little more reassuring seeing that guy there.. lol

I wouldn't have added it to my op if it wasn't safe

I had to use this method when I flashed the MD6 update so I know it's good

I'm am really wanting to Root my Gs3 But I am a very cautious person I don't have the money to buy a new phone if I make any mistakes so If anyone could just answer a few questions for me I would greatly appreciate it.

I've never Rooted a phone before so I do not know some of the terms you guys are using as I read through the replies. For instance "OTA" & "CWM" can someone explain? That being said I am pretty good with tech related things and have built all my own PC's but as with anything you have to learn so thats why Im asking these questions.

My Cricket Samsung Galaxy S3's Model number in the About Device of my phone is: SCH-RS30C Can I use this method on this phone? The phone is completely unmodified with Android 4.1.2.

Also The steps about the USB drivers and Kies I don't think I have Kies (assuming its a piece of software if so I have never downlaoded it and dont see it on my pc) The USB drivers I have are whatever windows downloaded for me when I plugged my phone in. I'm using Windows 7 64bit. DO I need to have a specific USB driver to do this? I don't quite understand the part about the USB drivers I don't know if we are supposed to just download and use the 1.4.6.0 drivers or only use them if what we have is not lighting up the COM button.

Other then that I can follow the instructions.

    Thanks for your help

The 1.4.6.0 drivers were proven to be the most stable and best working drivers for many variants of the GS3. That's why I recommend them over others.

OTA stands for Over The Air and is generally used in reference to updates but also service programming. FOTA will come up a lot too and stands for Firmware Over The Air and it's always used when talking about OS updates for phones.

CWM is Clockwork Mod. CWM is a custom recovery that allows more freedom and functionality than a stock "recovery". You will also see TWRP come up on occasion which is the Team Win Recovery Project. It has more features than CWM but I'm a traditionalist and prefer CWM.

This method for rooting and recovery will work. It's been tested on all variants of the S3 and the files in the OP are specifically for the Cricket S3 aka SCH-R530C aka d2cri
