. . you didn't know? all these androids seem obsolete in a year or two despite whatever else happens.

Seeming obsolete and actually being obsolete are to different things. The power behind the s4 can last much longer then a year. Just because manufacturers keep putting phones out every 8 months doesn't make older models magically self destruct.

I just hope we get a killer deal, when the switch comes to gsm, if not, I'll consider moving to another carrier. I think they would not want to lose customers over this situation.

I'm glad I didn't jump on the s4. That's crazy to spend all that money on a bad ass phone just for it to turn into a $500+ mini tablet a year later. But let's just see how this plays out it can go either way. Hopefully better for us

Best scenario would be an even trade for a comparable device, don't think that would happen though, hopefully we can trade in our devices for a considerable discount.

Also wondering how the insurance situation would go, if Cricket starts to sell gsm devices soon, will the insurance company give you a gsm device for an insurance claim?

I have to admit that today I felt a bit of irritation when I got a email from Cricket telling me that all their phones were on sale, with no mention of none of them working after the transition, until you go to the site and read the notification.

That's one way to find people that owe you money. Buy the company everyone ran to! Smart!

    Samsung Galaxy S4

The girl down here at the local store who also has a S4 just told me that only current customers with apple Iphones AND the Galaxy s4 will be able to keep their current devices. She said the S4 will require a software update and a new SIM chip, while the Iphone wouldn't require anything. GSM phones will start to be made available for sale starting in April or May, while the Iphones and the S4 should be enabled for transition before then. (all according to the employee)

That's good to hear, I hope it is true, since I just bought an s4 a couple of months ago. I don't know though, the customer service reps in my area will say anything.

If her information is correct, the S3 is not capable of using the necessary frequencies, as I understand it but the S4 is.
