Unhappy HELP! I think I might have totally bricked my S4! :( ..without attempting to root it.

I was prompted to update the firmware of my S4 while using Kies 3 to download some photos from my phone. After I downloaded the photos I let Kies update my phone and instructed others in the house not to reboot the DSL router. At this point I walked away to go cook dinner. When I came back an hour later I was greeted with "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" rather than a completed upgrade. I tried different things...pressing vol up + home + power for a factory reset, emergency recovery via Kies, firmware upgrade & initialization (also via kies). Nothing works. The PC doesn't even recognize that it is plugged in. My phone has a 16GB microSD card that is used to store additional music which was installed earlier this year, the day I got the phone. I did not take it out prior to upgrading the phone. I removed it and tried emergency recovery again...nothing. My phone is stock from the factory, never tried rooting it at all.
Does anyone know of anything else to try? ...or is it toasted?

You'd have to use Odin and restore it if you didn't copy the recovery code down.

Nevermind...everything is ok now. I did the recovery from a different computer. Recovery went very smooth and also upgraded to KitKat at the same time. Recovery and upgrade were done via Kies3.
