Hi, quick question. I was good with reading steps 1 - 13 and again for steps 1 - 7, but the last note about the kernel at the end of the main post confused me. Do I need to do anything further after the 7th step for SU?

Also, I haven't done anything at all to the S4 yet. There is an OTA update available. Is there any issue by applying the OTA update first and then following these steps? or does the order matter? ie will I lose root access or the ability to change recovery after the OTA update? My last phone was an HTC and the root/recovery process was significantly different. Thanks.

I just noticed that, after rooting, I am receiving the following message when I check for software updates:

"Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available."

Did I do something wrong? If not, how can I download any new updates?

    Thanks.

Sorry if I'm being a pest, but would someone be able to answer my questions? I hope that I didn't screw something up. How can I confirm that's the case? If I did, how do I go about reverting back to pre-recovery/root?

    Thanks.

Once you root that's that. You will get that message until a full unroot method is created

Thank you for the clarification, Stephen. By "full unroot", what do you mean?

Is there any way I can install updates via another method?

And how do I unroot and unrecover, if I want to revert back to the way the phone was prior to following the directions at the beginning of this thread?

    Thanks.

One that no longer reports modified in Android is what I mean. There are no updates as of right now so I wouldn't even worry about it yet

Thank you for your response, Stephen. So that I understand correctly, I should be receiving that message re: updates because of the root method that I used, not because I did anything wrong?

If I want to unroot, how do I go about doing that?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure as I haven't done it yet. I've been trying to do a million other things and balance life again so I haven't worked it out yet. If this is anything like the S3 is the same method

all you need to do is flash ODIN tar - OUDHS CWM-based Recovery 1.0.3.5 with Odin 3.04 or higher version forget the compiling just boot into recovery and install SuperSU-1.32.zip myself i like TWRP so i google for the odin flashable version of that and used that instead of OUDHS so if that recovery doesnt work for ya use TWRP then click INSTALL once u have loaded the recovery(vol up + pwr + home) find where u put SuperSU-1.32.zip on the phone whether u put in on internal memory or extSD
