How to root on Cricket Galaxy S4 4.4.2 firmware.

Alright guys. This is how I rooted on the stock 4.4.2 firmware after odin.

Basically after odin I installed Philz recovery which needs to be flashed in Odin.. so heres the link to the tar for that:

    Goo.im Downloads - Downloading philz_touch_6.27.2-jflte.tar.md5

Just download that, put phone in Download mode, put that tar in the AP part of Odin and flash.. Youll need to beat the phone to recovery as usual so just do that. Click reboot phone or whatever.. think its first option, it'll ask you if you wanna root.. I said yes and tried it like that but it wouldnt stick so you can pick yes or no or whatever you want.. Pretty much this step is semi optional. You can use whatever firmware youd like but this is how I did it.

Then let phone fully boot up.

SHut it down () and go into download mode.. Then open odin!

    Download this:
    CF-Root Download

Unzip it and put the tar in odin in the AP part.. let it FULLY run. this means dont unplug cord or do anything until your phones booted.. itll run a script and reboot and do neat tricks. You should now be rooted! enjoy! Havent fully tested everything but did root checker and it said i was and this has been the only thing that has stuck for me. Hope it helps at least 1 person..

What did you mean by "beat the phone to recovery"?

When Odin restarts your phone.. press and hold power.volume up.and home at the same time before Samsung screen.. where you see the blue recovery words.

wait a minute so did you get a lock bootloader then because as far as i knew if you updated to 4.3 you get the knox locked bootloader so i guess you do get the lock bootloader right.

Successfully flashed 4.4.2 with odin. previously had 4.3 rooted with kingo without custom recovery (havent really needed it)

right now without root, knox warranty = 0x0

couple questions if you dont mind...

    1. Will flashing a custom recovery make it 0x1?

    2. I'm curious as to why you flashed philz_touch recovery instead of CWM or latest TWRP touch v2.7.0.1?

(i used TWRP with 4.2 before the knox bootloader crap and it would root for me without update zips)

    1) Yes
    2) Philz is the best out there right now.

The first flash file you linked worked for me, didn't need the second download.: philz_touch only!

once the su binary is in /system/xbin/ you're good
