    No root for me...no root for Moto G. Backup suggestions?

    Well, after seeing all the talk on the Intarwebz about the Moto G being rootable after you unlock the bootloader, I got the Moto G a few weeks ago hoping to root it when I got the time. Finally got into the project this weekend and after finding out the best backup software for non-rooted phones--since unlocking this bootloader sucks the soul out of the phone--I get it all backed up. Only to find out.......................that the Cricket/AIO version of the Moto G cannot have its bootloader unlocked. o.O

    I first tried by getting my bootloader magical digits(TM), going to the Motorola website and pumping those babies in to their prestidigitator. They tell me that unlocking the bootloader on this device is not allowed. O.o

    That's right, friends and neighbors, if you hadn't heard, the bootloader--as of yet--cannot be unlocked. I'm not sure I know how to even dial a phone number on a phone that isn't rooted. I'd always say "sudo dial" before I dialed anyone up...not that that did anything...but it'll make even less sense now. That may be a bit of an exaggeration. My point here is that I am missing things like Titanium Backup... I'm pining over it.

    And it looks like it's not going to be hacked any time soon since every other Moto G on this blue marble can be unlocked by Motorola.

    So...I'm just trying to find out a couple things about backing up apps, data, and settings.

    1. Does either Holo Backup or Helium backup system settings for a non-rooted phone? I keep seeing both answers. And, well, I really don't want to test it out myself.

    2. This is my perpetual request for any information leading to the arrest of the Moto G's bootloader...and its darned secrets. I don't see it happening anytime soon, but if it does....

    Thanks, guys.

    1. How about giving a link to the files/method you used to try and unlock it (or was it just the Motorola website?)
    2. Where(link) did you find out it cant be unlocked?

    EDIT: i guess you saying Motorola wont unlock it so it cant be rooted. What is the exact message, cant unlock or wont unlock or...??

    @M.M
    Is it boost moto g or Verizon moto g ?
    If its Verizon then what you say is correct. Verizon moto g bootloader cannot be unlocked.
    For boost models its possible.

    Sorry for the late response, guys! Busy week!

    1. Correct on your edit. The Motorola message that popped up after submitting my bootloader numbers was that it is not allowed for my device. Basically, they WON'T unlock it.

    If certain legislation would've gone through, they would've been legally required to unlock our phones at our request. Despite bipartisan support, they keep stalling. And the Librarian of Congress didn't help last year when phone unlocking was removed from the whitelist.

    The Cricket Moto G bootloader can now be unlocked. I just helped the developer test it. Info can be found at
