Root method I will use are the ones being used for moto g. Those require to unlock first then root. I'm going to try and make a video on the whole process.

If bootloader unlock is done, rooting is too easy for moto g.
Just flash twrp 2.7.x.x , this recovery can root your moto g just by rebooting it to system.

Yes so then I'll post video of unlocking process using sunshine. Then rooting will be up to whoever or however others want to do. Keep in mind this app does cost $25 and is an in app purchase. I used the app and it says my device is compatible then takes me to payment method to purchase liscence and continue. Once unlocked the app deletes itself I think so that the license can't be copied and used again I really don't know.

APK for sunshine is available on ninja root website officially. But it works only on one device which you pay for.
You cannot pirate or share it as its commercial application .

Also sunshine will root your phone, you just need to install SuperSU

Oh yeah true it does root too. Yeah the creator of the app has it locked down and I don't blame him. This and a couple other phones had unlockable bootloaders.

    Which recovery you are using.
    There are 3 options.
    Twrp
    Official clock work mod.
Philz advance base on clock work mod.

Twrp and philz is best for moto g for advance task.
Clock work mod is OK for basic ROM flashing
