Questions about iPhone 5S and where to begin.

Can someone point me to the right place or answer my questions?

I could search but Iím not sure what to search for.

    Let me set it up:
    1) I want to use a used iPhone 5S on Cricket wireless that I purchased from another site.

    Question:
    1) Can I buy that phone from Glyde.com or EBay?
    2) If I can, do I have to make sure it is a) unlocked b) a Verizon specific phone c) GSM-ready or d) a combination of the three?

    3) Will the SIM card from Cricket take care of all uncertainty?

For example: I can get an iPhone from a reseller that was once on the Verizon network. I may not know if it is unlocked. If it arrives NOT unlocked am I screwed or will the SIM card save me?

I should add (if it matters) that I have mostly Verizon towers around me. ATT specific phones do not get good signals. The Cricket Coverage maps shows that I am in the green.

    Help?
