Unfortunately there is not a root method at this time. I have for one spent the better part of the past 16 hours looking for a way. The kernel is relatively new [Wed Jan 14 12015 8:33:24 to be exact], and every exploit [so far] has been patched.

Also if you have noticed, any wifi tethering has been removed... need to root to modify the apk's.... Bluetooth tethering does not work... but, USB tethering DOES work.

If I find any method w/o flashing a recovery, i'll let you know. Would probably be a while, don't have another day off work for about a week.

I too have been searching. I got the new s4 for 99 cents and upgraded my plan from 3 to 20 gigs a month. I rely on using hotspot for work, and when the home internet goes out which is fairly often (i hate comcast). I have been searching daily for a way to root. Id really like to stay with cricket, especially now that i get service in places i usually never got it on the old network. but if i cant have hot spot, im switching to a different phone/carrier next month Im still reading and trying, i will update if i have success.

Can confirm that neither towelroot or kingo root works.

My S4 i337z 4.4.2 tuuboa1 has been rooted. I am very happy... King Root 4.1 no PC needed......Just uninstall the other two icons and keep the Kinguser. Good Luck

Nice! That worked great! It wouldn't root without the desktop version but I'm finally rooted!! Thank you!
