Angry Cricket move to 4G GSM Network

I am currently with the Cricket Wireless Network. AT&T acquired Cricket and due
to this Cricket is upgrading its CDMA network to 4G GSM and expects to stop
offering CDMA wireless service as early as March 2015. I have only had my phone
for a year and per the device specs my mobile network type is CDMA - EvDo rev.A. My question is.. my phone is listed as a 4GLTE Galaxy S4 and I thought LTE was based on the GSM network technologies, so can my phone be upgraded to access
the 4G GSM network? Cricket is telling me I have to purchase a new AT&T 4G GSM
capable phone in order to continue use of Cricket service after the March
2015 changeover. I'm confused as to why my phone will not work per the LTE status? If not, can it be flashed to utilize the 4G GSM network?

The phone does not have a gsm radio. Lte may work, but you won't be able to call anyone. The hardware is not present.
