I'd pick up a battery off of eBay and test it out.

For $30 you can grab 2 extra batteries and an external charger off of the Amazon:

Amazon.com: Laza Sprint HTC EVO 4G 2x Battery + Travel Charger, Evo Shift, Verizon HTC Droid Incredible, Sprint Hero, Touch Pro2, Snap, Ozone: Cell Phones & Accessories

After reading a lot of bad things on ebay batteries I decided to pay a little more to avoid getting a cheap knock-off which would defeat the purpose anyways

As it is now, I never plug in my EVO, just swap the battery when it gets low (or change to a full one before leaving the house, even if the current isn't all that low, but not 100%)

Myself just had a friend order a extended life battery and cover for my phone. I read the buyer reviews from the seller and every battery that I found in the list the people were happy with. My battery is bad I get 5 hours max standby on full charge.
Have you tried to do calibration on your battery? This have me a little extra battery life (at least 1hr more standby then I had)

I Was lazy the last time I did it.
I used battery calibration app from the market.
