How to get data/mms on evo 4G

I have an unrooted EVO 4G that I cannot figure out how to get data. My phone doesn't have root yet so greenk45 won't work. They also have me on some weird $45 plan for roaming as I'm in st louis which is a tri band area and the evo is dual band so I roam about 97% of the time. It's just annoying that the data only works in WiFi. Talk and text work fine.
