    HTC EVO 4G root

I have tried every method of rooting the EVO on GingerBread (2.3.3) without success.

I've tried GingerBreak, UnrEVOked, and the method from HTCevohacks.com.

Does anybody know of any other methods or apps to root the evo? Or even if anybody's working on a permanent root?

There is currently no permanent root for 2.3.3 evo. Temporary root has been recently achieved so hopefully permanent root is not far behind. There is a big group of people working on this so its just a matter of time.

from what i've read, if you use the offical RUU for froyo v2.2 to roll it back, you can then root after rooting you can go back to v2.3.3.

You need to have been rooted before though (S-OFF)

Thats the thing exactly. I got the phone with stock gingerbread and security on. So that method isn't an option.

I'm with you, replaced my EVO and the new one was locked out

    I've been following along here:

    <Collaboration><Dev><Ideas> HTC Evo 2.3.3 Gingerbread Root Collaboration. - xda-developers

one guy seems close-ish to having something, and others in the thread are following a lot of other groups who are working at it, I'd keep an eye there, it's very likely that the second it's cracked, someone is going to post a link to it there.

thread got closed, so still waiting then... here's my new plan: search the XDA EVO 4G forums for "root" once or twice a day. Others suggest following the rooting teams on twitter, but meh

I'm not wasting my time searching the forums twice a day for something like that. Mostly because once root is achieved it'll be all over the internet within 48 hours.

heh, kinda funny, I thought the same thing (not wasting my time) about following all these groups on twitter/facebook/whatever, but doing a quick search on XDA now and then seemed reasonable, to me at least

I do see your point, and I might search every few days or so. But after trying all kinds of other roots and failing with them I got a little discouraged.
