If I Root My EVO Will I Lose My Flash?

I have an EVO that was flashed about 8 months ago, but I don't think my phone was rooted. It came with all the Sprint apps and I can't take them off. It also had ?ROM Manager? and ?Spare Parts?, and "Wireless Tether" (says "Unable to start tethering. Is your device 'rooted'?") preinstalled. I also noticed on the SD Card there is an "Unrevoked Forever.zip" file. I've never had a flashed phone before and I'm afraid to do anything that will mess it up or make me lose my flash.
It's running on Android 2.1, and everything works (i.e. SMS, MMS, Web, Market, etc...)
If it can be rooted without losing the flash, does anybody have any suggestions or links for which root method works the best? I see there are a few out there
Thanks for your help and sorry for being such a noob. I'm trying to learn and have been on all types of forums for the past week trying to figure this phone out!!

There was a video on youtube that showed you how to do it. I tried it on another Evo running 2.2, and it worked great.

This phone I ended up reflashing cause it was having issues.
