    MMS Issues

I got my Evo flashed to Cricket last week. When I got it back, there was an Android Messaging app on it that was not there before. So now I have Handcent, Messages and Android Messaging. No matter which app I send it from, it shows up in all three apps, but it will only successfully send if it's sent from Android Messaging. When it comes to receiving MMS, It has to download in Android Messaging then it will show up in the others. I've read a lot of the other threads but I feel like my situation is different and I have no clue where to start...

I'm using Handcent on my Dinc and the stock messaging app is still on my phone. Try going to Handcent>settings>application settings>default messaging application and set it to "disable". This disables the stock app and sets Handcent as the default messaging app. I can still turn on the stock app directly and see messages but at least it stays off when "disabled" by Handcent..

I tried this and no luck. I had it set to All (SMS & MMS) and that kept the double notifications from happening.

Try leaving it set to "disabled". Find your "stock messaging app" and your "android messaging app", go to their settings and see if you can turn off their notifications.

Android messaging force closes when I try to go to its settings so that was the only way to get it to stop.

Astro file manager from the market. Open it and it will say backup application. Look for the app and click on backup

Why do people use handcent? Honestly?

It sucks and takes up resources.

Dont know. You mentioned the android messaging app force closing but didnt say anything about changing settings in stock messaging app.

I could also recommend renaming the android messaging app from whatevername.apk to whatevername.old ...that should stop the app completely for further problem solving.

How do I rename it? The stock app is set NOT to notify, but since changing the Handcent settings to disabled, I'm getting double notifications; one from Handcent and the other from Android Messaging.

The problem isn't with the notifications, it's with actually being able to send/receive MMS. I can only send/receive from the Android Messaging app...

Ok sounds like the stock app is disabled by Handcent. Rename the android mms app with Astro or another file manager just like renaming a windows file. Then lets see if the phone defaults to Handcent and the stock app. Note: i'm recommending renaming instead of uninstalling so that it can be put back as was quickly.

Post the path of the stock mms.apk and the path of the "android" mms.apk also.

I feel really dumb right now but I couldn't find the Android Messaging app in Astro to rename it so I deleted it. It was downloaded directly from my Evo's browser by going to mms.ihavegreat.info. Is the path where the app is located? The android messaging app was on the SD card and the messages aka "stock app" is in /system/app
