I'm on a Bionic flashed to cricket and I made a nandroid of my stock system with cricket just to be safe. All roms I have flashed I've had to mess with apn settings but after that I've gotten data talk and text. Never cared about MMS. I HOWEVER did have an issue with liberty 3 for my bionic the radio would be stuck in unknown and couldn't change it or do anything. But as of now I'm on CM9 with working data talk and text. To sum it up you should be good just keep a nandroid handy.
