help extracting data(contacts, texts, pics, etc) from messager touch with broken screen

my samsung messager r-631 has a faulty screen. Phone still works screen just doesn't light up. I purchased another phone(same model), but i would still like to access my personal data. I have browsed around but I am not familiar with terminology of this process. Can someone point me in the right direction for example, what this is called, software used, apps, etc. I figure i should be able to do it with a usb cable and computer.thanks for any help

Pics should be stored on the sd card. Your contacts (pretty sure no texts) can be retrieved using a machine called Celebrite. Any corporate Cricket store has it and they charge something like $10 to do the transfer for you.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it?

thanks for the info Dina. They pretty much told me the same thing at Cricket before. Someone suggested Samsung's Kies software and I think it might work. Ill report back after i try it later this week.
