Is Vista better for flashing phones now?

I have been flashing phones for 5 years now and have always used XP. However in the past year I have had issues with XP. I have a hard time restarting my system as it often errors out and I have to log off and log back on. There are times it is so bad that I actually have to do a repair installation to get it to start up again.

I have done some reading on this and it seems like Desktop Manager 5 from RIM is causing this issue. However, even LGNPST has to be reinstalled everytime I use it because I will get the BSOD. I have never had so many problems with XP and flashing phones.

My theory is perhaps Vista is now the better option as the drivers are more current for the newer devices and perhaps it is the more stable OS now.

I am hoping to get more opinions on this because I pride myself on being able to quickly flash phones and it isn't easy to be quick when you are uninstalling and reinstalling programs to get them to work.

    Thanks for your help.

Honestly, no. I have no idea why your experiencing those types of issues but i've always found xp better for flashing devices. I'm writing this from the computer I use for flashing and some of the software specifically for flashing blackberry's just does not run under 7 and vista. There are other forum members who experience the same thing and I installed XP on my system just for better stability and software compatibility amongst flashing programs

Thanks Thomas. I am beginning to wonder if it is because I am using windows xp pro instead of the home edition. If I remember correctly I think I used the home edition until a little over a year ago and switched machines.

I've always kept my Windows XP netbook around, and it's come in handy quite a few times!

Same... original Inspire One with SSD. I use to utilize it all the time. That's when I was doing mobile flashing. Now it's only in use when necessary.

That really has no bearing smitty, it sounds like you are experiencing hardware issues (heat perhaps? Summer is here after all...) or you just need to format and reinstall...

I have used both Home and Pro for flashing purposes without issue...
