Alternate One Click Root Method for Huawei Ascend (z4root)

    Reposted from:
    [APP] z4root - xda-developers

Note: The newest version has an Unroot button also.

Froyo is a bit of a pain to root! Well, this fixes that.

    What this does

It is an app you install from the market or by side loading, that has a single button that will root your device.

    How safe is this?

Should be 100% safe - nothing on disk is changed besides the root binaries, so if something goes wrong, simply rebooting the device should fix up any and all issues. Let me know if you find any bugs!

The new temporary root option works on 99% of available Android devices - no list yet of which specific devices are incompatible with the temporary root option - I am still trying to find out.

Here is the list so far of known compatible and incompatible devices for the permanent root option. I haven't actually tested these myself - I only have a Galaxy S device - but this list has been created by reports from users.

    Compatible with PERMANENT root option

    Samsung Galaxy S (All variants)
    Backflip
    Sony X10
    Xperia Mini
    Droid 2
    Galaxy Tab
    Galaxy I5700
    Galaxy 3 I5800
    Droid X
    Samsung Acclaim
    Cricket Huawei Ascend
    Motorola Cliq
    Huawei 8120
    Hero
    G1
    Optimus T
    Droid 1
    Garmin Asus A50
    Motorola Defy
    LG Ally
    Motorola Flipside
    Motorola Milestone 2
    Dell streak
    X10 Mini Pro
    Smartq v7 android 2.1

    Incompatible with PERMANENT root option

    Desire (requires nand unlock)
    Desire HD (requires nand unlock)
    Magic (unknown)
    Evo (requires nand unlock)
    G2 (requires nand unlock)
    Archos 70 (unknown)
    myTouch 3G (unknown)
    Wildfire
    Droid Incredible

    Changelog

    V1.0.0 : Initial Release
V1.1.0 : Will now open the application settings page if USB debugging is not enabled.
V1.2.0 : Unroot support, fix for devices with small max file size such as I5700, binaries in xbin rather than bin
V1.2.1 : Back to /system/bin for support for some devices. Fix for QVGA devices.
V1.2.2 : Adverts added (can be permanently disabled with menu option). Hopeful fix for devices such as Moment (Did not work).
V1.3.0 : Force unroot option, temporary root option.

    Market

This application is available directly from the market. Search for 'z4root'

For the latest version of z4root, download an app called Applanet and search for "z4root". You can also try searching for "z4root" in the market but it might not appear.

EDIT: It looks like z4root is not available on Applanet anymore. You can get it by downloading the apk on the first post in this thread.

I think computers detect viruses even if there isn't one with some of this stuff sometimes.

Since this file resided on my computer, it's been scanned by Symantec Endpoint. It's good.
Please check the forum and post there before PMing me. I have over 674 unread PMs due to the fact that they are issues which should have been addressed here.

I haven't tried this yet, but I bet it comes up as a PUP (potentially unwanted program) or something like that. Basically, if you trust the source of the file, you should be ok. A lot of the tools I use at work come up this way, because they can be used for harm or good depending on who is using them. Being as rooting your phone usually exploits a hole in your operating system, quite often they will be considered malicious. Again, if you trust the source, you should be fine.

Root Huawei Ascend over the air

This can be done over the air or on WiFi. z4root doesn't appear to be in Android Market (aka Play) anymore.
    * Go to
    http://code.google.com/p/xdroidx/dow...root.1.3.0.apk

    * scan the QR code OR if using your phone, select the link to download
    * After downloading, pull down the message area and select "z4root.1.3.0.apk" to install it
    * You may be told that you need to enable a setting to allow z4root to be installed, allow it.
    * You will be asked if the changes z4root makes should be temporary or permanent. Select PERMANENT
    * Once this is complete your Huawei Ascend will reboot once. You are rooted

    Pro Tip

All, YES ALL hacks, cracks and root systems WILL CAUSE a false positive. Becase it is a program which violently alters a systems stability to gain root.

I used this method once upon a time and it worked fine for me. I used clockwork mod to flash icarus on my Ascend, and it was flawless.
