blinking buttons & refusal to charge?

So, today my ascend had a low battery, but I didn't have a way to charge it. Accepting the fact that my phone was going to die, I continued to use barnacle wifi tether and mixzing (music) until it turned off. When I got home and put the phone on the charger (not stock huawei, bought it from Walgreens), the bottom buttons started flashing and the phone wouldnt charge. I've gotten it to turn on a few times while on the charger, but it seems like the charger isn't charging fast enough and the phone goes back to blinking lights and dead screen.
Im planning on getting the Mercury when it comes out, but anyone have any ideas for a quick fix so that it doesn't completely go off the deep end before it gets replaced?
