*STICKY* How to Flash MOTOROLA DROID to Cricket: 2.2 Froyo Talk, Text, MMS, Internet

This thread has been copied a couple of times and modified slightly. This particular version came from bigslanki at XDA Developers.

Let it be known that sometimes Cricket says they have put you on the $55 Android plan, but they put you on the All in 55 Plan (5m5). There are now 55 dollar Mexico plans also. If you want easy Internet access, make sure you are on the Android plan.

We offer plan change for free to supporting members. Just use the links under site services. Premier Supporters of the forum receive additional benefits such as free ESN changes on your account. No more paying $15 everytime you change phones. To become a Premier/Supporting Member, just click the link at the top of any page.

    On to the tutorial...

This is my attempt to recreate the solution from

While you still have the Verizon PRL, I'd check to see if there are any updates before moving on. You most likely will never get notified that there is an update available.

    You will need:

    1. CDMA WS 2.7 (google) OR http://www.cricketusers.com/flashing-tools-files-programming/44-cdma-workshop-2-7-download.html

    2.
    Harware Virtural Serial Port

    - The single port version is free!

    3. Motorola A855 USB drivers (These are the 32bit Drivers) - Link to both 32 bit and 64 bit drivers directly from Motorola (
MOTODEV > Documentation & Tools > USB Drivers

    OR Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.0.0_64bit.zip / Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.0.0_32bit.zip

    4. Cyanogen Mod Rom from Rom Manager in Market

    5.
    SPRecovery

    6&7.Autostart.sh & U2nl from
    whiterabbit.org

(thanks to whiterabbit). Save autostart.sh and U2nl in C:\android\tools\. (if you are going to be on the $55 Android plan you don't need to download this)

    8. Download Autostart (Root) from Market (if you are going to be on the $55 Android plan you don't need to download this)

    9. NV items from
    Android - whiterabbit.org

(u must generate this uniquely with you mdn@mycricket.com i have included a generated xxx@mycricket.com.text for sample or to replace x's with you MDN

    10. PRL (http://www.cricketusers.com/flashing-tools-files-programming/5041-sticky-official-cricket-prl-thread.html)

    11. Android SDK (
    Android SDK | Android Developers

) - We have extracted the files to c:\android in this tutorial.

UPDATE: The new zip file Google has changes the location of adb.exe. I think they encourage you to download the executable because it allows you to execute adb no matter what directly you are in (from command prompt).

Step 1. First step is to make sure you have the drivers installed on your computer, and you also need to have Android SDK installed on your computer.

You will need to root the phone, key here is to make sure the kernel you load supports iptables.

Step 2. if you need to ROOT: Get Z4root (
    [APP] z4root - xda-developers

    )
than download Rom manager over wifi from MARKET, proceed to flash clockwork and download and install cyanogen 6.xx rom, and google apps..wipe data etc.

Note: Some people have had problems with the latest releases. If you have problems getting 3g or just Internet access in general, try to install another version like 6.1.0.

Step 2.1 if first fails. get RSD Lite 4.6 (google), Power on phone holding down the up arrow and pressing power, this will put you into bootloader mode.

    Open RSD Lite 4.6

Flash the SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf file with RSD Lite.

this should just flash the recovery if not download a rom like
    SMOKEDGLASS

unzip and put in folder on SD named Nandroid

Here is another good explanation for step 2.1 (
Motorola Droid: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki

    )

Once the phone is completely rebooted into rooted android, power it off.
alternately u can install BuglessBeast froyo v 02.1 from alldroid.org then skip to these steps below.

Hold down "T" on the keypad and power on phone.

Plug into computer and open HW Virtual Serial Port (your drivers should install and connect etc)
In HWVS set the IP address to 192.168.16.2 and the port to 11008, choose the com port 10 click connect. (For this tutorial we will use COM10)

Note: I use CDMA WS just to write the NV items. I do everything else in QPST. This tutorial explains to do more than just writing the NV items with it. Either way works.

Open CDMA WS 2.7 and (go to settings tab and deselect NV Enabled) then connect to COM10.

If you dont deselect you will get PHONE FAILED ERRORS however it will probably still work.

On security tab send SPC 000000. (msg says phone accepts blah blah blah)

Go to tab labeled "Other" and write prl. For Cricket 3g 49200 is recommended.

Go to NAM and enter MIN ex. 615-555-5593 (usually different from your actual phone# and MDN(your mobile number ex. 615-555-5551 and click write.

Goto "Memory" tab and click write under NV items, find the downloaded NV items you got from
    here

for example you must generate the NV items by inputing your MDN(6155555551@mycricket.com). Box opens telling you to save them as .txt and select them with cdma 2.7. (Thanks again to insanecain)

It should then say, 12 NV items were successfully written to phone.
Go to Main tab and click mode reset.

You can now close HWVS and CDMA WS and open cmd.exe on your computer.

if you have QPST open it on the com port 10 read your settings. under MIP mip2,,PPP(Um,AN...etc it should say 6155555551@mycricket.com etc in the right columns....in the bottom box password may need to be written to phone, just type in cricket for both Um and An, cricket is the password.

Also select mobile ip+simple ip under MiP tab

    select write to phone

A QPST tutorial is here if you had problems: http://www.cricketusers.com/flashing....html#post6489

Below is for the 45 dollar plan

Once phone reboots go to the market using WI-FI and download and install Autostart root required
Open the Voice Dialer on the phone and say "Open APNs" and click open.
Click on the Verizon and edit everything to match below:
    Name - Cricket
    APN internet
    Proxy wap.mycricket.com:8080
    Port 8080
    Username yourphonenumber@mycricket.com
    Password cricket
    Server wap.mycricket.com
    MMSC
    http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms

    MMS Proxy wap.mycricket.com
    MMS Port 8080
    MCC 310
    MNC 004
    Authentication Type PAP or CHAP
    APN type <Not set>

Now click the menu button and click Save.

Before starting the next step make sure you have the u2nl file in your this folder c:\android\tools and also that you have you autostart.sh file in this folder c:\android\tools
Now go to command prompt (Windows button > enter cmd in the search >hit enter) and type the following commands...

    cd c:\android\tools <enter>
    adb shell <enter>
    mkdir /data/opt/ <enter>
    exit <enter>
    adb remount <enter>
    adb push c:\android\tools\u2nl /system/bin/u2nl <enter>
    adb push c:\android\tools\autostart.sh /data/opt/autostart.sh <enter>
    Now:
    adb shell <enter>
    chmod 0755 /system/bin/u2nl <enter>
    chmod 0755 /data/opt/autostart.sh <enter>
    exit
    adb reboot <enter>

Install Autostart from the Market or download it form the bottom of this post and install it. Reboot the phone (sometimes it will take more than 1 reboot) and give the Superuser Permission box a few seconds to pop up. Autostart will be looking for permission. Grant it.

    ---end $45 plan instructions---

    For the $55 Android Plan:

Open the Voice Dialer on the phone and say "Open APNs" and click open.
Click on the Verizon and edit everything to match below:

    Name - Cricket
    APN internet
    Proxy <blank... clear it out>
    Port <blank... clear it out>
    Username yourphonenumber@mycricket.com
    Password cricket
    Server wap.mycricket.com
    MMSC
    http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms

    MMS Proxy wap.mycricket.com
    MMS Port 8080
    MCC 310
    MNC 004
    Authentication Type PAP or CHAP
    APN type <Not set>

Now click the menu button and click Save.

    ---end $55 Android plan instructions---

Now, once your phone has rebooted, you should have working web, mms, app, gps, and all. If you don’t go back and check all the steps to insure you did everything exactly right.

    thanks everyone for reading.

i would also like to thank everyone who helped give back to the droid community by solving this, (I gave up and switched back to my eris for full support like a Beeach! which i bricked twice) im back on DROID baby
currently running BuglessBeast Froyo v 02.1 and the p3 1000 kernel.

    -----End-----

    UPDATE: 4/30

These APN settings were just submitted to us for a Droid on the $45 plan. Please let us know what works for you...

    Name: Verizon
    APN: internet
    Proxy: wap.mycricket.com
    Port: 8080
    Username: your10digitnumber@cricketusers.com
    Password: cricket

    MMS proxy: wap.mycricket.com
    MMS port: 8080
    MCC: 310
    MNC: 004
Authentication type: <Not set> which means leave it blank
    APN type: <Not set>

Motorola Droid A855 Driver issues! HELP!

I've literally searched high and low for over 2 weeks trying to resolve this issue before bothering you with it.. I'm trying to flash this phone over to Cricket. Ive installed Android SDK and JDK, HW Virtual Serial,Debugging on. The problem I have is, when I just power on the phone it has no issues being recognized as a storage device. Its when I either press "T" and power it on the issues begin.. the Motorola composite device could not be installed. Or when I try to use HW serial it tells me Motorola USB networking device wasnt installed correctly. Ive downloaded two different drivers with no prevail. Im running XP 32bit. When I go to device manager I see the :ADB Composite device (Has no Drop down properties) with the sub folder Motorola A855 with an exclamation next to it.. I did a couple of manual updates(two official drivers from Motorola site) directing the update to the folder containing the driver. Even tried the edit .inf file I read about on another forum with no prevail. RSD Lite connects with no problem. Its the Networking driver and A855 driver that wont install in PC/Diag mode.My head is about to litterally explode dude.. Im irritated for spending $160 on it and stuck for 2 weeks now, my wife upset I wont give up and spending too much time trying.. PLEASE HELP! PLEASE! If not this phone is for sale! LOL! Mint condition.

Get in touch with me sometime.... I'll try remotely logging into your computer via Teamviewer, and we can check out what's going on with the drivers.

On my Windows XP 32 bit machine, things have been going weird with the new drivers, Droid 2, and MTP device. I wonder if there's a specific version of the driver that is better.

I'll post back up in this forum if we make any headway.

    AIM: androidtocricket

I'm always on AIM and usually on Yahoo. I can be on the others if needed. PM me e-mail chris at androidtocricket if you're just having a hard time in general.

Not going to request any money just to get the drivers installed. I want to perfect this thread and encourage others to join the forum.

CDMA Workshop will come up as having a virus in this download link due to the nature of the shared file. It modified code to start the program. There is no virus. Make an exception to its folder when possible.

All the other files should be free of problems.

Chrisngrod with Android to Cricket can probably do the remote flashing.

Thanks for the great write up everything worked for me except MMS. I had to remove the MMS proxy and then everything worked perfect.

Do you get the 3g icon even? You have sent the NV items using CDMA workshop?

What city are you in? Trying to make sure it's not a tri-band area. PM me your phone number so I can make sure your account looks right?

Verified that you are on the correct plan and not in a tri band area.

If you get Teamviewer I could verify your settings. It's available at
