I'd SBF it to 2.3.340. After this you can upgrade it to a rooted Gingerbread release.

SBF (you're going to need RSD Lite...try to find version 4.8 at least...I'm using 4.9.... Usually have to do it from my XP box):

    2shared - download VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf

UPDATE TO GB INFO (from My Droid World):

Just do a wipe before installing the first part (as it is safer to wipe before most major changes). After installing the first part DO NOT REBOOT. Install the second part and then reboot.

    1. Your phone must be in the following condition before you can use the patched updater.

1.Your phone is running the 2.3.340 official Froyo Firmware
    2.Your phone has been rooted
3.Your phone is using the Droid2 Bootstrap program (Do Not Use DroidX Bootstrap)

Install part 1 and then part 2 before leaving recovery!!

    File Part 1
    md5sum: a02e41f06370419ac4f8f77c45b52c1e
file size: 99.4 MB (104,274,395 bytes)

ok so the guy came and picked up the phone a little bit ago and said he wanted to wait.
he just brought it back to me saying he needs the phone asap. well i turned it on and was going to use the info chrisngrod gave above and get it going; to my supprise it hangs on the M logo now. thats when i remembered that when he origenaly brought the phone to me that he had already rooted the phone with Z4root so it got me thinking. i checked the sd card and sure enough he had been messing with the phone. i found SSX-prep.zip on the root of the sd card. i called him up and he told me he was trying to install SSX 2.0 to "make it easier to flash"

so at this point im trying to figure out what to do. im wondering if i shouldnt grab SSX-GB-2.0-update.zip and see if i can finish what he started.

any help on this would be great

will full flash even work with SSX 2.0? does it support iptables?

I am not sure what an SSX 2.0 is...

With that said, I assume it is a custom ROM of sorts. If the phone hangs at the M logo, you need to SBF to 2.3.340, it is that simple. Follow Chris' advice and you will be just fine....

BTW, you want to do any "flashing/QPST" work with the stock software.

I am not sure, I would assume so. I've tested 2.3.340 and 4.5.596 as well as CM4DX.

ok im going to give the sbf a go.

SSX = Simply Stunning Gingerbread 2.3.4 for Droid X (custom rom)
SSX-prep.zip = 2.3.340 prep so you dont need to use sbf when you are going to install a rom that has a prerequisite of 2.3.340

only reason i knew what SS rom was is because i reworked a Droid 1 that had SS on it when it was brought to me. (nice rom from what i remember)

ok finaly got the sbf up and running thanks for the links. now down to work.

all done everything seems to be working so far
(annoying thing wouldn't let me edit the apns had to delete them with apn backup & restore)

Isn't that an option under calling or wireless and networking? I don't have a Droid X in my possession right now.

Ok I'm going to try the roaming tone option if its there. Herd that it doesn't show on all dx for some reason. I'll be doing this friday as he just took the phone back a little bit ago. I'm also going to be replacing the boot animation at that point as well. Changing the red eye blue

I own a DROIDX, and I have no idea what you're talking about. Anyway, I would put it on stock 4.5.596 GB, it works without issue, let alone making all kinds of noise/talking.

A link to said rom would be nice. Is it rooted/rootable?
