    that's a joke right?
you're the one who put the recovery to this phone, and it didn't have Root at first. keep that in mind
    cyanogen mod is not root
root is superuser permissions, similar to that on a linux computer.
have you considered the fact that maybe the reason other guides have ROOT in there is because it's not cyanogenmod? lol
once again cyanogenmod is NOT root. -.-

not sure if this really helps your discussion but I know without a doubt cm10 is root. the stable monthy as well as there nightlies.
i also agree cm 10 is not root. but many of its extra settings require root access. there for unless im mistaken would make cm10 require root. and I could be wrong. It happens a lot lately.
    Great op post.

that's not what i'm on about. I understand cm is rooted, however it, itself, is not root. root is a completely different feature that can, from what i know, be enabled on every device.
cm is not on every device, and is a rom, juts like miui, and icarus, nightly builds from random people.
I was simply saying this guide needs to say that people should root there phone.
root unlocks many capabilities, and one example, being the mercury, does not have cm, but has root.
cm is ROOTED (usually), however cm itself is not "root" or "Su" or "superuser".

It was half and half. Yes the recovery was made to flash ROOTED ROMs. If you have a custom ROM, you can root it in the kitchen and flash thru recovery. Like the eris and my S3. Well the eris was recovery and flash any rooted ROM. The S3 was different, download mode, Odin to stock ROOTED then cwm. Either way it makes sense to know CM is rooted and or you will have to root to get it in the first place.

What I was really trying to say is rooting, recovery and backing up does NOT improve your phone. Unless you know what your doing.

rooting allows you to install certain apps, such as adblock etc. it does improve your phone based on simply the market applications you download. and even a todler understands what "adblock" means.
