The command works fine there is just an extra space between remount, rw should have no space.

IMHO, I wouldn't remove the manual section. Some people don't want to have to pay money to do this.... yes, I know it is only $1... but why pay for something if you have the ability to do it for free.

I stumbled upon it myself when I loaded my original custom recovery. Glad I could help. And yes it is very true why pay even $1, when you can do it another way for free. Gotta say tho, flashimage GUI is an awesome little program that makes it a whole lot simpler.

To get the GPS working, you needed to have it enabled in stock then flash CM7.

Search the forums on how to restore back to the stock ROM. After restoring just turn on the GPS and reflash. Worked for me.

As for the Swype keyboard, I haven't been able to fix that yet, but I have gotten used to the Android one, so I haven't worried about it.

Will do. I'll post back with results.

    [Edit]
I reinstalled the stock ROM and turned on GPS. Flashed to CM7 and GPS works.

I'd just like to post one unrelated caveat:

Titanium Backup doesn't work the same in CM7 as it does on the stock ROM. Cancelling an app installation while restoring a backup caused TB to hang and on CM7 would hang on loading on the subsequent reboot. Please note that CM7 failing to boot was not consistent behavior, but TB locking on an app install cancel was.

Neither app that had SN install canceled was a system app - one was the NPR news feed.

    LLC

In all I'm very happy with CM7, and dropping the low CPU speed to 122 and using the 'interactive ' governor has given me better than stock battery life by over an hour.

Thanks for the hard work, to everyone involved!

I'm a n00b when it comes to this...

When I am installing the recovery image and I get to the following command:

    cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
It says file or directory not found...

So I tried following this thing to the "t" but had a few problems in the command prompt. Finally got it to load CWM and my phone rebooted itself before I could do anything, and now it sits there saying Fastboot Mode Started as soon as it powers on. Can't get it to do anything else. Found somewhere how to go into emergency mode ? with the vol up button, back button and usb simultaneous connect. It brings up a screen saying "don't disconnect software update". My problem is it all happened before I had a chance to back up my phone or anything and have no idea what to do now! I have been holding off on attempting the CM7 for fear of this happening, and now I would just be happy to be back where i was. Any suggestions?
PS. Just have to keep this working long enough for Cricket to release the Mercury

ALRIGHT! That worked. now it's stock again. No more brick. Maybe try this again and see if I can get it to work this time. If not at least I know how to get back to point A!

This is what is now happening to me. Mine says:
/sdcard/flash_image: No such file or directory.
I have put the recovery.img on the SDcard, and not in a folder. I don't get it.
Going to try reformatting my SDcard through the computer and see if that makes a difference?
Really stinks nobody is around to help out lol.

What phone are you doing this too? I'm going to state the obvious, these files are for the OC! Second never unzip files. I can try and help, I have run both ROMS with only minor issues that are posted here.

    @TragicTemper
The flash_image is a flash utility that is used to flash the kernel & CWM. Search the web for FlashImage GUI. It also will flash the CWM for you and it works well.

I've been trying to make it work using the Terminal method. Was hoping I wouldn't have to fork out the $0.99 for the app. I'm just confused how it is supposed to work using the "command prompt" if it's still trying to tell me that it needs to find a file from an app that i've been told isn't required in the first place. Heck, at this point it seems that it would be worth $9.99 for the app and avoid all this headache to begin with.

Okay, found a flash_image file at
    Flash image - CyanogenMod Wiki

. put the file on my sdcard next to the other one and viola. Installed with Terminal Emulator. Running CWM now, backing up phone. Fingers crossed the rest goes easier lol.
