    Hi, Salas...

I have done your custom recovery before on my last mercury. I didn't have any problems. but this time i tried to do it, I tried to turn it on with the vol+ and vol- keys pressed, and it started doing a firmware update. I thought i bricked it for a minute, but then i was able to do a factory reset. anyway, do you have any idea why it's not going to the pink screen?

ROOT USING Oriax's ROOT METHOD *HERE*

    1.Download recovery image at
    recovery.img

2.Turn off Huawei Mercury, then turn on and hold vol.up + vol down.

3.The screen becomes pink, connect Mercury with PC via usb cable, usb drive will be mounted

4.Find file recovery.img, place it somewhere safe. Copy downloaded recovery image to where the old one was, and unplug USB cable.

5.Turn off the Mercury (pull out battery) and turn on holding volume up.

you should now have a custom recovery

Thank JonHaney for this. He modded the recovery of the Honor and asked me to make this thread. So long ago, I forgot to add credits. Sorry bro.

Nevermind... figured it out. I had just completed a downgrade back to Gingerbread, as I was getting soo sick of how ICS was running on my phone. It was slow and stupid. Anyway, so I still had the "dload" file on my SD card, and when i turned it on holding the vol+ and vol- keys, it thought i was trying to do a firmware upgrade. So, I took the "dload" folder off of my SD card, and it got to the pink screen no problem. Just thought I would post this, in case anybody else has the same problem.

Glad you got it fixed. If you hadn't I couldn't help you because I never tried the ICS download so I never learned the process to "update firmware" Lol.

question about your Easy Root procedure

I screwed up the first time because I didn't download the recovery file and proceeded with the rest of the steps. Then, I replaced the stock recovery file with the downloaded one AND repeated the rest of the steps....to no avail. First, should uninstall FastRootv3.zip and then try it over...I'm a total noob and am pretty close to getting this I even downloaded Root Checker Pro and it says

Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
    Super User Applications Status:
Superuser application - version 3.0.6 - is installed!
SuperSU application - version 1.41 - is installed!

System File Properties for Root Access:
    Standard Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/bin/su:
Result: /system/bin/su: No such file or directory

Analysis: File /system/bin/su does not exist.

    Standard Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/su:
Result: /system/xbin/su: No such file or directory

Analysis: File /system/xbin/su does not exist.

    Alternative Location
    Check Command: ls -l /sbin/su:
    Result: /sbin/su: Permission denied

Analysis: File system permissions restricted and denied access.

    Alternative Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/sudo:
Result: /system/xbin/sudo: No such file or directory

Analysis: File /system/xbin/sudo does not exist.

Root User ID and Group ID Status:
SU binary not found or not operating properly

    System Environment PATH: /sbin /vendor/bin /system/sbin /system/bin /system/xbin

    ADB Shell Default User:
ADB shell setting for standard access, stored in default.prop, is configured as: shell (non root) user - ro.secure=1

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance to any consideration you give this request.

I thought these were EXCELLENT instructions that were very detailed and helped me get parts I missed my first attempt(s), esp. the direction to put the recovery.img in the images folder rather than leave it where it landed by default....so, anyway, I am close but no cigar...here's what Root Checker Pro had to say:

Root Access is not properly configured or was not granted.
    Super User Applications Status:
Superuser application - version 3.0.6 - is installed!
SuperSU application - version 1.41 - is installed!

System File Properties for Root Access:

    Standard Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/bin/su:
Result: /system/bin/su: No such file or directory
Analysis: File /system/bin/su does not exist.

    Standard Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/su:
    Result: -rwsr-sr-x root root 104496 2013-07-24 06:14 su
Analysis: Setuid attribute is present and root user ownership is present. Root access is correctly configured for this file! Executing this file can grant root access!

    Alternative Location
    Check Command: ls -l /sbin/su:
    Result: /sbin/su: Permission denied
Analysis: File system permissions restricted and denied access.

    Alternative Location
    Check Command: ls -l /system/xbin/sudo:
Result: /system/xbin/sudo: No such file or directory
Analysis: File /system/xbin/sudo does not exist.

Root User ID and Group ID Status:
SU binary not found or not operating properly

    System Environment PATH: /sbin /vendor/bin /system/sbin /system/bin /system/xbin

    ADB Shell Default User:
ADB shell setting for standard access, stored in default.prop, is configured as: shell (non root) user - ro.secure=1

Any clue as to where I might tweak it a bit and finally get rooted? Any help is greatly appreciated!

That's the problem, it's not showing up there. At first it had driver issues till I installed the driver pack on the phone. So then the drivers got installed for download mode but it still won't show up in my computer.
