Huawei website. Although I'm sure they haven't started on it. At least a source for kernel is all we need.

If anyone wants to look at the "U8860" open source kernel you can go to tinyurl.77hurt3

    Using Linux

    ex.C8860
If you want to extract the "UPDATE.APP" thats in the dload folder you can try this.

    To extract a UPDATE.APP from a Huawei device using linux;

Note: Put everything in the same folder

    1.Rename "UPDATE.APP" to "updata.app"
    2.Download these files
    a.
    http://www.zebadger.com/android/scri...lit_updata.txt

    b.
    http://www.zebadger.com/android/binary/crc

    3.Rename "split_updata.txt" to "split_updata.pl"
4.Open Terminal and "cd" to the folders directory
    5.Run in Terminal "perl split_updata.pl updata.app"

All done. Everything will be in a "output" folder.

You can then use the system.img and/or the recovery.img to play with.

To extract a system.img you need to have "unyaffs" and to recreate .img file "mkfs.yaffs2"

Open terminal and "cd" to the directory of the files.

Run "./unyaffs system.img" to extract the image to a new folder called "system"

    to remake the image:

Run "./mkfs.yaffs2 system system.img" to rebuild the image.

I noticed that one Mercury's on 2.3.5 have alot of problems when rooting or gettings the custom recovery to stick.
While 2.3.6 has had no problems "to me so far".

I been trying to create a stock replacement but data is still a no go , also the keyboard will Forceclose even with the correct Permissions..
    You can
uninstall the keyboard and install an new one if you have it in you sdcard. Talk and text and everything else works.

BUT if you want to play with it then here you go:
    Gingerbread Reinvented

Sorry if i dont post much anymore, reason:Job hunting is a pain here -_-

"ex.C8860" as it says on the post above yours is the same as the C8860E. lol and yes we need those files. All we got is the gingerbread which im playing with when i have time. Which i dont have. You can also use the kernel from the c8860E to make another rom as it says on the post above yours.

-_- not at the moment. If you read through these post it says we need a source for the cdma version kernel. BUT if you want to make a backup make sure you have CUSTOM RECOVERY installed. If you do then just go into recovery by holding Volume UP and Power until you get into recovery. Then just go to backup and restore. make a backup then you can restore to backup whenever.

Sorry I was away for so long, had some work to do. Anyways, out of all the phones that can run CM7, there might be phones with cmda. Could there be a CM7 rom with your tweaks like the Beats audio?

You can find beats audio.zip in xda forums. Itll install on any rom, but may or may not work. Also we need the open source kernel for our device cdma version, we cant use it from any cdma phone.

Ive been scouring the huawei sight with translater seeing anything for a possible update nothing ..... may have to get back on the flashed band wagon for all involved this silent member appreciates everything !!!

Yes all the hype about ics was for honor. Honor in china area. I have tried many times to get some information out of huawei about ics. Also i have been asking them in email about Source for kernel presently on our device. I have sent them over 20 emails with NOT ONE REPLY.
So im starting to wonder about what type of company they really are. Alot of flash and double talk all over there website.Makes me now even more concerned. With that said they may be a Great company But the us support DOES NOT RETURN MY EMAIL..
maybe a few phone calls will be needed i urge everyone to ask them about ..

IF They are considering ics for our phone.. and TELL THEM THEY MUST AT VERY LEAST GIVE US SOURCE FOR THE KERNEL to 2.3.6 for mercury.
Thanks again for listening well reading my Frustrations.
