The same image folder mounts in Windows. Is it possible to overwrite the files in windows with these as well? Or does it have to be a linux distro?

answering your question and thanks for posting, yes the image folder you are talking about can be over written in windows but this is the main guide to un bricking a phone that needs more then just that image folder with those 5 files.

So this guide is to fix it after trying to install a custom recovery, rom, or what exactly? The reason i ask is because i just uploaded a ics rom and was wondering if this would fix it if they end up bricking their device.

Thanks jkinglv90, but I am still not getting it.

Thanks for all the help jkinglv90, but I am a little lost.

Eighth step power on phone simultaneously pressing the volume up.

Ninth step press volume down 5 times.
Here is where it goes wrong for me. The list of options I have runs out in 4 clicks:
    Android System recovery <3e>
    Android system recovery utility

reboot system now (this where I start)
    apply update from sdcard
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition
touchscreen firmware update (I get here in four clicks the fifth does nothing)

If I click on the firmware update it asks me to check the firmware on my sdcard.

    from there nothing makes sense

Tenth step press power button once. (this will give me the check firmware message)

Eleventh step press volume down once. (this takes me to apply firmware from sdcard)

Twelve step press power button three times. (this takes me to an empty directory on my sd card)

Thirteenth step after you have restored your phone click power button one more time, you have just fixed your phone. (phone is rebooted, but I have the same problem I had when I started, market crashes, and I am still rooted.

Is clockworkmod supposed to be installed before any of this works? If so I just have to find a good apk, because I can't use the market.

    Please leave feedback.

Thanks again JKinglv90 I got it this time, the only thing I had to change was:

    Ninth step:
Press volume down 5 times highlight backup and restore then press power button once.
I had to choose restore from internal sd card instead.

Then it went perfectly and 10 minutes later I had it rooted and working properly!
