New to this site and have been reading this thread for sometime now.
I currently work at a Cricket Premier Dealer store in San Antonio TX, and people won't stop
Calling about the Mercury. This one guy calls EVERY MORNING to see if it arrived. Can't wait any longer !!!

Yeah Gman I have crunched those numbers as well. I really like the specs for the Mercury and everything but I am concerned with the speeds. Especially when I get to the 1gb mark. Will things slow down substantially? I mean, to the point where I will want to toss the thing out the window? LoL.
As it stands I am using a cheep cricket phone without any of the smartphone features. So I really do not know what to expect. I was so turned off from doing a 6 year term of contracts I switched to Cricket almost 2 years ago.

No. It has a single core 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon processor. From everything I have seen online it is still very responsive.

If you have a WiFi internet connection at home and at work like many people, then most of your data is going to end up going through there and not count against your soft data cap (the Mercury will support wireless N,G,b networks) and your speed while on your wifi networks will depend on your WiFi network rather than your 3G data connection. Hope that clarifies things.

You can use WiFi as suggested above, and if you still go over the 1 GB soft cap you might experience speeds around 100 kbps. It is very slow, but you still should be able to use it.

I'm thinking they shrunk the front facing camera because the full size one wouldn't stream on their network. Where I'm at their 3g is .4 MB.

I think most areas would be capable. We get speeds over 1 MB here constantly.

It was a 3g usb modem in central cali a little out of town a few years ago that I had for a while. I remember trying it in the middle of town though too and it wasn't any better.
