    Digitizer / Screen seperation

    Hey peoples!

Tell me something, I've got my merc all torn down into parts so i can replace the glass which i cracked. Any way, it looks like the digitizer glass and the screen are all one piece. ? , huh ? ... how the heck do you seperate them. I ve worked on other phones and the 2 pieces come apart almost effortlessly. What's up with the Mercury???

Most phones these days don't have separate digitizers. They're fused to the glass.

Thanks for your input, I'm uploading some pictures to better explain the device construction. It's the LCD screen that's clipped in to the digitizer glass and does'nt appear to be serviceable by an amatuer .... wrfaircloth knows something about a "guitar string"? me : i've never heard of this.

I was just kidding. I saw this machine some where that was made for separating glass from lcd digitizers. It looked like it was using some sort of heating element heating up guitar string and it basically sawed it's way through the glue. Damn thing was about $1800!

Perhaps a heat gun if you think there is adhesive that can be used to separate the layers.

I see a lot of videos on Youtube for others models but not the Mercury / Honor.

For the replacement glass... Can you find it on eBay or elsewhere with the LCD and digitizer all in one?
Please check the forum and post there before PMing me. I have over 674 unread PMs due to the fact that they are issues which should have been addressed here.

Probably heat gun would really help but gonna take more technique than that, ... i believe, ..., look here are some magnified photos of the crazy clips i've never seen before.

Oh and i did cruze youtube b4 posting didn't see any huawei models like this. Anybody else seen an ass'y like this from another mfg??

Do you think this thread would get more eyeballs if I moved it up to higher forum directory than mercury?

    Wink best solution

Sure enough, Heat gun is the best answer, You literally pry the frikin glass right out of the housing. Glass comes out the front of the phone; not the back. It's glued in there with some adhesive. I found out the M886 (Mercury) and the U8860 (Honor) are cousin phones from different carriers.

You can indeed use a guitar string it works, heat up housing for 35-45 seconds on medium heat than slowly get guitar string in between glass and LCD and having the housing held in place slide the guitar string slowly across between the glass and LCD and the glue will be undone. I did this for my Droid RAZR. also slide a piece of paper in while separating to keep glue from setting back after string passes.

    No guitar here sorry

Having done this on a mercury a couple of times now, ..., A guitar string won't do it on a merc Here's why: the merc glass sit's in a "bowl" shaped housing that holds the LCD screen. The guitar hero method sounds better, on a model phone which one can thread it thru.... , ie. a "ring" shaped housing. These mercs need the glass pryed out ...., use lots of heat, .... and use more heat for the new glass, be sure to get all 4 corners in tight.
