    Gingerbread kernel requests.

    I figured since the kernel source was out now, we might want to start a thread for requests that we'd like to see from ROM's. Maybe some developers would like to pick up the challenge.

    CIFS support. I would love to be able to use one of the CIFS apps in the Play Store to mount CIFS/NFS shares. Just need a cifs.ko module.

    USBOTG. I don't know of the hardware supports it, but I have a MegaADK board here I want to play with, but none of the apps support the Mercury. It's supposed to work through adb too, but no dice. USB Device was supposedly built into 2.6 in later versions, but it doesn't seem to be enabled. I didn't see anything obvious in the kernel.

    Looks like this won't be as easy as reconfiguring and recompiling a Linux kernel. Make already failed pretty quick. I have a lot of reading to do.

    @Erica....i feel your pain, but if you want a more cherished area to divulge and embrace knowledge about Mercs and others.....go over to unleashedprepaids or put some stuff up on playfuldroidz.....seems to me that the boobs, sorry, noobs tend to stay away....i don't think they know what is even being said there. Droidz is a wiki so, ya know......but unleashed is what i can see as THE hangout for people who know what they're doing. I only check there because i think that's where pg is gonna post his Merc finds first. Hope that helps ya not be so upset at the children :-)

    Running Slackware (14.0 RC4) on x86. Athlon FX55 with 2GB RAM. GCC 4.7.1 openJDK-7u7.
    I think part of the problem was just trying to run make without the ARCH flag. Will do some reading and try again in a bit.

    If the kernel source is complete, and configured correctly, any that work on 2.3.6 should be able to be supported... In theory.

    ---------- Post added at 08:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:12 PM ----------

    Oops. Was missing the prebuilt arm gcc toolchain, and I had /proc/config.gz from the 2.3.5 original ROM. Copied the 2.3.6 config.gz, extracted to the kernel dir as .config and downloading the gcc toolchain now.
    Building cifs.ko as a module, but still not seeing anything about USB device support. Anyone know anything about Android Accessory for API 10?

    There's always that one person in a thread who will not follow directions and mess up, then cry for help when his 300$ phone doesn't turn on at all. Where I hang out its a 700$ phone and numerous people bricking

    I just had a grand idea! I remember playing with build.prop and trying to enable multitouch/jazzhand so we could use more then just 2 fingers as touch points. It was said that this would rely on the Kernel and lastly strings in the build.prop.

    Code:
    public static final String FEATURE_TOUCHSCREEN_MULTITOUCH_DISTINCT
    Since: API Level 8
    Feature for getSystemAvailableFeatures() and hasSystemFeature(String): The device's touch screen is capable of tracking two or more fingers fully independently.
    Constant Value: "android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch.distinct"

    public static final String FEATURE_TOUCHSCREEN_MULTITOUCH_JAZZHAND
    Since: API Level 9
    Feature for getSystemAvailableFeatures() and hasSystemFeature(String): The device's touch screen is capable of tracking a full hand of fingers fully independently -- that is, 5 or more simultaneous independent pointers.
    Constant Value: "android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch.jazzhand"
    This is totally out of my league but if someone knows enough to try, maybe we can get 3 or more touch points to be read. If it's hardware related then I don't know if we have a screen that is capable, but worth a shot.

    1. It also depends on the screen. Not just the kernel.
    2. Why would you want more than 2 finger touch?

    The coolness factor and because the iPhart has it. Why else?

    I think with "true multitouch" you can rotate Google Maps. Some apps and games require it, like Ocarina for example (
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....ocarina&hl=en

    ).
